Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Anyone have the A.R.E. cover?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I e-mailed several of the A.R.E dealers in PA. So far, no replies. Maybe they don't need the work! I do have a question: My truck has factory bed caps and a Line-X liner. Will either cause an install problem with the A.R.E. cover?

Not at all. My dealer installed the cover right on top of the bed caps and the Line-X is not even an issue. The LSII uses a clamping system which requires no drilling whatsoever.

Since there is talk about A R E in this thread I thought that this would be the place to ask this question. I have a 04 Tundra DC , I am looking to buy a cap and came across a A R E cap that is in great shape however... it is currently on a 01 Tundra extended cab ......after making numerous measurments and comparing these measurements I cant see any difference. Does anyone have knowledge if the bed sizes of a Tundra 04 DC is the same as a 01 Tundra Extended Cab.
Thanks for any help.

I have also been considering the purchase of an A.R.E. cover, probably the nice looking z-series, and had a question about the optional compression front boot shown in their brochure. Has anyone had the compression boot installed, especially on a DC with the rear slide window? Does it form a watertight seal? Does it fit outside of the pickup window as to not interfere with the rear slider?
My local A.R.E. dealer was not real helpful with these questions and made every effort to steer me away from ordering the compression front boot. They said it would wear away the paint on the cab where the seal rubbed.
If it made a good airtight and watertight seal I thought it would be nice to throw a little A/C or heat to the dogs in the back during extreme days on the way to the field.
If you don't have the compression boot, and lower the rear slider is there any strange or loud wind currents due to the shell.
Thanks for any helpful information from your experiences.
I saw an extended cab with with the color matched A. R.E. on. It looked really good. However, I can't seem to be able to get much info on the cover. Emailed the manufacturer for spec and prices and got a coupon! If anyone has experience with the A.R.E., please reply. I'd really like to know how difficult they are to remove. Thanks, Stoney
A.R.E. is top of the line. I've owned 2 bed covers and they are awesome. Maintenance free and very easy to take off and put back on. A.R.E. also does a great job color matching and paint has always held up with no problems. I've seen leers and other brands of bed covers on some tundras and they look horrible, they just don't go with the trucks body lines and they look like they don't fit correctly. The A.R.E.'s are designed look like part of the truck. I strongly recommend A.R.E.
I've got pics in my gallery, I'll try and post more.

Still to come: custom dash kit, JBA headers, exhaust, and eventually custom paint. And whatever else looks appealing!
