This is a discussion thread titled "Gold Package items", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Does anybody know what is included when getting a gold package? Does it include gold windsheild washer spray outlets? And is it hard to replace the existing emblems?
Thanks

Gold windshield washer spray outlets??? Are you kidding? Genenerally it includes all the badging. I have worked at a couple Toyota dealers and you are gonna love this...they do the gold plating right there on scene right on the vehicle over the chrome badging! Takes them prolly less than an hour and what do they charge you? Hundreds of dollars? Hardly worth it IMO.

The gold emblems are 23k gold plated, from Toyota, when built onto the car. If a dealership chooses to use the crappy process to save money, ie. the "turn the silver emblems to gold" color, that is at the discretion of the dealership -- and a bad decision. Most good Toyota dealerships do not do things that way. The cost of the emblems after the fact, without the installation, is about $200.

Correction. The emblems may be 23K gold but, if they are, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's a plating. If they are solid 23K gold selling for $200, I'll be the first in line to buy all I can get.
They are the same emblems that come on your car but they have been electrostatically plated, which is the same process the guy was talking about. It's entirely possible to plate them electrostatically without taking them off the car but it would be far easier to do if they were removed first.
My old Infiniti dealer showed the process to me and it cost the dealer about $40 to $60 bucks total, depending on the number of emblems on the car in question.
Yes, but the emblems look God-Awful after a few years... and sometimes, a few short months. I wouldn't ever do that to a Sequoia, not even a Camry or a Corolla! I get to see these things years later when traded in or brought in for service. You should see that "color treated" crap about a year or more later. Ugh! Looks all mottled and blurry and cheap.

Maybe your dealer doesn't do it the same way, I'm just stating how the 2 dealers I HAVE WORKED AT do it. From everything I have read I am sure Carson is superior to the dealers I have worked at, but that doesn't mean that I don't know what the heck I am talking about.

and the fact is that you clearly stated that THAT is the way it is done.
THAT is the way the gross-building thieves do it. Not good dealerships. This is what I was trying to point out. I do not know why you took it personally.

Well, I guess I just assumed that that is how it is done at all dealers, guess I was wrong. But I bet many dealers do it that way. Sorry if I mislead anyone, can I be forgiven?

There are unscrupulous dealers who do things that way. There are even dealers who will remove older gold badging off their used cars and slap it on the new ones and mark them up accordingly. Did you know that?
If you email Steve Ganz (Steve G from our site here) and ask him, he can give ya cost-info on the real Toyota gold emblems and what Toyota 23k plated parts are available thru Toyota for all of the cars. I wish the "emblem treatment" people would go away. I hear from folks on occasion that their dealership offered gold emblems at 100 bucks or even 200 bucks on a car already there and it takes me time to explain the "why not do this" thing. I just see enough cars 8 months old and up with the crappy mottled gold look. :/

And what about other precious metals?
It's just the badging thank goodness. A little bit of gold goes a long way, don't ya think?

Dianne - Has Toyota started offering the blacked out badging package? This was popular on 4Runners a few years back & IMHO, looks tight on a dark colored vehicle!
I would love to get a Green Seq with black badges when I take the plunge!
