Is this a tundra with the intergrated mudflaps? Or a tundra with mudflaps added afterwards? To me this makes the difference. I believe it is the tundras with the TRD package and the ones with the Limited package that have the intergrated mudflaps. While just the regular/Sr5 have mudflaps mounted afterwards.
If I am wrong I am sure so one will chime in. Thats whats great about this board, so much knowledge. Anyway that's make take on this subject.

Take them off!!!! But only if you don't have the wheel arch things either!!!
I had to take mine off since my wheel/tire combo would not fit with the mudflaps..LOL. I love the way it looks. and my paint is flawless.

everyone's aware of that law..but how many cops actually enforce it? I've had cops in front of me, behind me, next to me, and all I've gotten from them are a big "thumbs up".

Oh, I know. Often it boils down to whether or not they really want to bother with a very minor infraction. I just posted it as a point of reference...myself, I would rather keep em on to keep the body clean, as well as not blind the people behind me on those occasions it does rain, but that's just me.

Take them off... leave them off... then put them back on... then leave them on... then take them off again!
Hehe - it's really personal preference.
Mine came stock without anything but after I put 10" rims and 305s on the beast the tires wtuck out wayyy too far, so I found some used from a member here at TS. Now they cover perfectly.
The problem I see with most of the wheel flares on the stock Tundras on the road is that they stick out way too far and make it look really stupid from the rear! Makes it look like you have those skinny little "Cholo" rims/tires on the truck! ACK!
Purpose-wise it's better on, but it does look better off. This vehicle code for mud guards is rarely if any, enforced by LEO's in CA, I would know. What's funny is, some cars are sold purposely without any guards or things like that. And it is optional.
Leave 'em be, if good looks are what you are after nothing is sweeter than clean paint. It can be nice looking without them but it does not outweigh saving your paint, even if we are splitting hairs on the paint, it is still paint, the finish... and any little thing can mess with it's beauty. I would have thought the same thing in the right time too so I feel ya but now I kind of feel like little stuff like that is practical and if removed, maybe trying just a little too hard.
You can get away with taking off the front , BUT here in CA. its a fix ticket if you pull off the rear. And forget looks , I hate ripping them off when I play in the dessert!!
I kinda let my Tundra tell me when it was ready to shed my TRD flaps. The fronts kinda got ripped off a few years ago. After the last trip to Barney Riley with mud and snow, I put the truck in reverse and the tire ate one...I ripped the other one off to provide balance.
Leave them on as long as possible to guard from road debris kicking up and dinging your paint, when their time has come and gone....rip em off...until you get a fix it ticket. Then, go and pay some money to put them back on.
If you 'wheel it, it's just a matter of time before the mudflaps become a victim.

Wasn't there a thread on here the other day about which looked better on the Tundra - Mud flaps/guards removed or in place. I can't seem to find it now.

Anybody have rear passenger mud flap that they have removed that fits 2003 Tundra step side 4.7 4WD, or know where to buy one?
Can't find anything online without having to buy the whole assembly.
