This is a discussion thread titled "Hood protector installation on 2005 Tundra", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I purchased a PT427-34032 Hood Protector for my newly purchased 2005 Tundra. Followed the installation instructions to the letter. While installing the "F" clips I noticed that they were not aligned with the hood. As I tightened the set screws onto the backing plate the "F" clips would slide down the hood. Once I closed the hood the "F" clips would fall off the hood. The angle of the "F" clips isn't correct. Has anyone ran into this problem?
Yes. Suggest you return hood protector to dealer and get refund. Part ending in 030 requires even more @!#$%@#$% as you must drill the hood.
F clips would not stay on my hood. Bad design. And, when the hood is slammed shut the inertia of the hood deflector tries to keep the deflector moving, and the F clips will loosen.

Is this a Toyota hood protector? I'm thinking of buying one for my 05 since i've already got a number of stone chips, only had it for 8 months. I've seen a number of Tundras in the parking lot at work with the hood protector and they look good.??
I too would like to know if this is the Toyota/TRD part, because I was looking at one of these.
Thanks ~ David

Thanks for the come back. I will take the part back to the dealer on my next day off. It is a Toyota supplied hood protector I bought from the selling dealer.

Yes it is a Toyota supplied Hood Protector. I understand there are two types that can be installed. I do not recommend this one due to the fact that it is not fastened to the hood with screws/bolts but only by pinching the hood. Once the light weight scuff material that is supplied with the Hood Protector wears off, I can see that it would then be rubbing the paint and you would be looking at a new paint job for the hood.
Just bought a 2006 Tundra enjoying it. I bought a subscription as I find these forums more informative than talking to a service advisor. It's always better to be armed with prior knowledge when a problem occurs than numerous trips to the dealer.
I look forward to the vast knowledge of members and the forum. I'm currently viewing information on OEM Hood Protector installation.
I have a Ventshade been on 1 year no problems, easy to install you have to install self tapping screws on the underside of the hood on each end the screws are short and very easy to install.
