Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Replacing Access Cab Rear Window Latch", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
OK, just did this myself and it's amazingly easy. Don't go to the dealer to have this replaced. Sorry the pictures are a bit dark, but they're good enough for you to get the idea.
Part Numbers (for 2000 AC, Oak interior)
62910-34012-E0 (Passenger side)
62920-34012-E0 (Driver Side)
Step 1) Remove the door panel - Remove the two phillips screws, and the trim ring from around the door handle. The trim ring can be tough to remove, it does come off with a bit of force. After those are removed, I start at the top and work my hands behind the panel and pull firmly straight outward. The trim buttons should pop loose. Work your way down around the edges until the whole thing pops off. Click here for picture
Step 2) Remove the two 10mm bolts from the frame, then the phillips from the window. Make sure to remove the foam gasket if it sticks to the window. Click here for picture
Step 3) Open the new lock and put the Phillips side of the replacement hinge on first. Then bolt the hinge to the frame. Don't over tighten the glass side...it is after all, just glass. Click here for picture
Step 4) Replace the door panel, trim ring, and screws.
That's it!

Awesome. Mine just broke as well and I was planning on replacing them this weekend. I have been staring at the door all week trying to figure out how it comes apart without breaking anything.
Thanks for taking the time to post such detailed instructions.

np.
Also note that these are complete replacements of the hinge, you cannot buy one half or the other, it's the entire hinge from the door frame to the window. I don't know what the part numbers are for different years (or even if there is a difference) or different color interiors.
Parts cost me $27/each at the dealership.

Unless being covered under warranty right. I took my truck to the dealership to have my passanger quarter window latch replaced last month. I took it to the dealership not because it was hard to replace but because they picked up the price of the part and labor. My cost $0 .

Of course. But someone not too long ago posted that they were charged $100+ to have this repaired at the dealer! If you're out of warranty just fix this yourself, it's really not that difficult.

Make em out of metal, then they never break! I did.
Like many of you I had both my original latches replaced under warranty despite the fact that I rarely opened those windows, becase the cheap plastic link cracked, and the replacement links started cracking in the same place a year later.
I am very disappointed to learn that they haven't improved the parts, and that they only sell them as part of a very expensive latch assemble. Shame on Toyota.
Not about to spend the money for new ones, I got some small pieces of aluminum and made a pair of replacement ones that should never break. I used the broken ones as a guide and used a die grinder with a carbide bit to do the final shaping. They look and work just like the original ones, and only look different becase I left them bright aluminum instead of painting them black.
Final cost to me, about 1/2 hour of my time, and $0.50 cents worth of aluminum.
Great idea Anamouse! I have the same problem, and would like to try your solution. Could you tell me where I might look for a piece of aluminum stock like you used?
Re: Make em out of metal, then they never break! I did.
I haven't looked closely but how are the old links put in? Is it some type of screw that can be reused, pop-rivet or steaked in pin?

If anyone knows where I can get a pair of the aluminum links, please drop me a line. Willing to pay for anyone's time, materials and shipping if I can get a couple...not interested in paying dealer prices on something that's likely to break again before too long.
