Default question about factory bed tie downs

Can you take the bolts out of the factory tie downs without the worry of losing the nut that it bolts into. I want to remove all of my bed bolts and hardware, etc before spraying the liner and was told by some guy that if I remove the bolts to the tiedowns the nut will fall of the back and get lost? True or False.

Would you just let them spray right over the tie downs or take them off first?

Default Your fear of loosing bolts...

...hasn't been brought to light here by the MANY users that followed the recommended procedure and removed the hardware 1st, including myself. Go ahead and remove them and unless your Tundra was built differently from mine, you won't have a problem.

I let the sprayer handle all the removal and replacement.

The nuts stay there.

I moved two of my tie-downs by drilling new holes and installing new blind nuts I bought at the hardware store.

Default Why would you?

I have a rhino liner and had them spray right over them. It turned out great and they'll never rust!

The people at Rhino Liner removed mine as well, and re-installed them. The nuts are welded on. Also, have them remove the access panel on the tailgate (used to get at the handle mechanism) and spray it seperate. This way, if you ever need to get to the mechanical parts of your handle, you can. If you have the tie downs sprayed over, it's just a matter of time before the liner starts to peal off. This hapened on one of my trucks.

What type of liner are you using? ...cause I've had a rhino liner for a couple of years now(it's been awesome) and have friends who have had them a long time(8 years or more) and no peeling problems whatsoever. And yes, these people use their trucks like a truck(no babying) and so do I. Maybe you just had a bad install.

I have a Rhino on my tundra (couldn't be happier). The liner that pealed was a Line-X (on a different truck). But, it only pealed off of the tie-downs. I think this was due to the fact that the area was a smooth metal surface, that saw a lot of wear with ropes and hooks, ... The twisting action of the ropes being pulled through it eventually made the loose bond between the liner and the smooth metal give way.
