Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "LINE-X Xtra - Final Update", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hehe!!
I got miy Xtra this weekend...over my 4 yr old Line-X liner....L O V E I T!!!
What I also did...let me back up.
Before I went to Line-X Sat. I washed my truck. Now its a 2000, so age is a factor, but as I was washing the bugs off of the side mirrors (white Limited), The paint started peeling off !!
Back to the top . I had the Line-X guy spray hatthe mirrors too!!!
As soon as my camera battery, that I had to order, comes in, I will post pics.
i'm wondering if i should opt to get line-x to replace the bed rail caps or just leave the toyota plastic ones. i have a retrax cover (thanks 123Gone) and it covers about half of the bedrail cap. so right now it's relatively smooth running when washing the truck. i would imagine line-x replacing the bed rail cap would make for a rougher surface and thus more difficult wash?
your thoughts....
btw... what is the difference between regular line-x and the xtra? why would i want to go with xtra?

Question on removing bedscrews or not. One dealer said they remove them and another said they don't because it causes more problems when they do. Who is right?
bugchucker: Here's the deal. We've been removing them for years. At first, we had a few problems. The threads are thin and the bolts are rather soft. So, we had to learn how to correctly remove/reinstall them. As of today, we haven't had a problem in years.
Same situation with the new track rail system. We striped a couple of little screws on the first couple of Tundra's. But now, we've learned how to remove/install them with no problems.
So, if the dealer is afraid to do it, then don't. If the dealer is comfortable with it, do it because it's the preferred method. If the bed ever needs to be removed, such as in a repair, the bolts can easily be removed. Also, I think the bed is better looking without the bolts sprayed over.
TundraBear: I don't recall getting a message that you posted. Sorry. Leave the plastic rail caps on. The rail's shape is not very nice looking. If the caps wear out, fade, or warp in a few years, just replace them with new ones. Xtra resists fading and loss of gloss, is more scratch and stain resistant, contains Kevlar for extreme durability (appropriate for a truck bed). If you get Xtra, it's going to still look great five years from now, maintenance free.
I have the bedrail caps on my new Tundra. I still don't know if I want a shell or even a camper at this point. The next thing I want is the bedliner. Is under the rail and leave the bedrail caps in place a safe move?

Yes, absolutely.
jross: What color is the Xtra in the bed? It doesn't look black.
I dropped off the Tundra at Line-X of Clovis to have Line-X Xtra sprayed this morning. I'll post some pictures this afternoon.

David, looks lke mine...I think that its the camera that makes it not look as "black".
Very happy with mine.......hmmm, now whats next??
It was a bright sunny day, 100 degrees, and the camera draws in as much light as possible. The Xtra finish is as black as can be. I did notice however no matter how well they cover the Truck with paper or whatever, you still end up with a dusty film all over it. I had to wash it off afterwards but I really didn't mind.
