why buy a salvage vehicle if you are going to part it out? i say just go to some auto auctions and buy a wrecked tundra that has the parts you need.

once the vehicle is rebuilt and is titled with a salvage title, it is considered roadworthy and will command more money than a wrecked unrepaired vehicle.

i saw a 2004 white stepside with front end damage at an auction. the truck sold for only $4,300.00. it cost almost $4,000.00 to repair it. now it has a salvage title and was listed for sale @ $21,000.00. it finally sold for $17,500.

think about it.

Fixed.

So do you have any information regarding my question or did you just want to help me distinguish the difference between salvaged and wrecked...

well ok then, if you are hunting for a "slavage title" vehicle, try checking out auto repair shops that specialize in vehicle frame straitening, and or are athorized to perform safety inspections on salvage titled vehicles. the local DMV might have a list of salvage safety inspectors. most repair shops that have frame straitening equipment usually do their own safety inspections too. you could probably catch yourself a better deal before the car gets sold to a dealer.

i know of 2 repair shops in hawaii that rebuild "totaled" cars.

sorry i dont know any places in your neck of the woods.

Default Salvaged tundra

Try checking at your local toyota auto parts recyclers. They sometimes sell whole vehicles that can be repaired.

Default Owner Retained (salvaged) 96' Toy 4rnr 133k

Hi folks,

I have a 96' 4runner 2wd, 133k, runs great but insurance deemed
it a total loss, front bumber and grill damage, no frame damage, didn't even break a headlight in the crash, rear bumber and single dent in the rear door. But now has a salvaged title and I have no idea what to do with it - help - should I fix it? sell it? to who? whats up with the registration now? Any advice appreciated ~

are you particularly attached to it? is it worth rebuilding better than it was? or would it be worth selling to someone who will do that? can you drive it around reliably without a problem?

if you need both bumpers and a bunch of sheetmetal, that's probably why they totaled it...new, that could be a lot of money, possibly more than the blue book on a 94 'runner. if you want to hang on to it, you should be able to find oem parts at a salvage yard and take them to a body shop for installation. also, you could ask at yotatech.com, they will undoubtedly be able to help you.

if you want to take the opportunity to rebuild it better and stronger, try the offroad community...ask around if you have a local 4x4 fabrication shop that specializes in toyotas. they may know of someone who might want it, if you dont want it yourself as a project/expedition vehicle.

Try the web site, car-part.com
Also try, lkq.com/newrequest.cgi

car-part.com will let you check for individual salvage parts and locations.

lkq.com/ is probably the largest salvage yard in the US. They also will sell complete salvage vehicles.
Hope this will help. Ken
