Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Installing Overhead Info Console", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
yeah I wrote a question to the ebay seller and that specific unit does NOT come with the temperature and compass probes....have to buy/find them yourself...so looks like only the Homelink would work as in your case.

I bought a sequoia overhead console off ebay for about 50$. I have the grey one from my 2006 DC and the tan one (ebay) from a sequioa side by side on my table. The Homelink / temp / compass portion is held in place with 5 screws - easy to remove and install in mine. I had to splice 3 wires - no big deal.
The wire harness inside the cab has only the three connectors installed as someone above experienced. I did however discover that the harness from the firewall forward is ALREADY WIRED. There is a unused connector hanging behind the horn, in front of the radiator on the passenger side of the vehicle. Just lift your hood and look in the vicinity of the horn. The console I bought off ebay came with ambient air temp thermister and it plugged right up to the extra connector.
So.... now all I have to do is skin the cat of finding the correct harness for the interior ...... without having to buy everything it connects to.
BTW - the ambient air temp thermister should only run about $16 to $17 from any Toyota dealership. It is a small / low tech unit.
I'll post more as I get more time to investigate/research and make progress.
I haven't been able to dig any deeper as of yet. I'm going to go back to my local dealer and either make copies of relevant pages of the electrical book or simply buy the book for $40.
The electrical book should have the answers I'm looking for. Once I have said book in hand I will make pdf scans of all pages / diagrams concerning this project, a list of part numbers, and try to create a procedure for this upgrade with a few digital shots.
Here are the digital shots I have to date (click to enlarge):
As far as I know there is only a temp sensor (thermister) and not a compass sensor.
The "compass sensor" is built into the display unit. Keep in mind that this is not a precision display and the compass functionality barely goes beyond the cardinal directions.
I'm not an expert by any means but there haven't been any indicators to date that we'll need a "compass sensor" during my research.

I think many of us are following this. I looked at your other post and will look for the cabin end of the pigtail. Should be able to order the wiring harness to run up to the console. Thanks for doing the legwork.

The picture of the front end of the Tundra shows the thermister, bracket and bolt required to mount it with location and part numbers. The picture of the receipt shows the part numbers as well.
The picture of the truck from a left-rear angle shows the wire bundle (I darkened the wire with a black pen for clarification). The problem I have run into is that there are 7 wire bundle part numbers in the Toyota system that could potentially be what is needed. There are no desriptions on said system to break out which one we would need. The parts guy is going to work the issue some more to see what he can find out for me - really good guy. The big arrow shows the location of where the bundle is tagged with the part number. It may boil down the need to find a willing guy with a console that has the "overhead module" and getting the P/N off the wire. That wire bundle will be different depending on:
- Moon/sun roof
- Rear seat audio contols
- Rear seat entertainment controls
- other factors
The cheaper wire bundles run around $25 to $45 ish ----- the more expensive ones are as much as $200ish. Needless to say I plan to correctly ID the overhead wire bundle needed before eating big $$$ on the wrong item.
Getting Closer!! More to follow. I WILL skin this cat.
If anyone has an 05 or 06 Tundra with Overhead Temp / Compass / Homelink Module, without a moon/sun roof, and without rearseat audio / entertainment controls...... Be a huge help if you were willing to dig a bit to find out the part number on the overhead wire bundle. I will personally ship a 12 y/o bottle of scotch to anyone producing this part number.
I just purchased the overhead console with temp/compass/homelink from an '01 Sequoia for my '04 Tundra. It plugged in fine, the map lights and Homelink work, but since the Trucks are not wired inside for the console I have to get the proper wiring harness. Monday I plan to buy the thermister sensor, so hopefully I'll get some info on the harness then.
Let's stay on top of this and we'll figure it out.
The prices on ebay have gone up. I paid $98 for mine, it was the buy it now price. I'm hoping that by getting the console from a Sequoia I can utilize some of the other features not on the Tundra models. But if I only get the temp/compass/Homelink to work I will be happy.
I'm havin' one helluva time getting the psrts dept to figure out which "Roof Wire" is needed for this project (see my above posts in this thread). To recap: there are seven part numbers that pop up in the Toyota parts computer and they are completely lacking in any descriptive info. Basically, parts guys can't tell which roof wire is the right one.
Anybody have a 05 or 06 Tundra that has the overhead module installed from the factory?? The roof wire is labelled. What we need is just one guy to pop off his overhead console and get the PN for the roof wire off a Tundra that has:
Homelink / Compass / Temp module
No moon / sun roof
No rear seat entertainment stuff
Then we'll all be in business.
The seven PNs in the computer range from $25ish to $200ish and are not returnable.....
As I posted earlier........ if any helpful individual is willing to spend 30 min digging around to find the part number label.... I will send you a bottle of scotch, whiskey or favorite beverage.
I'm not sure if this will be of any help, but I went to the dealer yesterday to try to get the part number for this wiring harness. The parts guy wasn't to optimistic about this whole thing working but he was helpful , and the technician (my brother-in-law) wasn't sure either, but he is going to look into it for me. Even if we get the right harness they are not sure that we'll be able to find the other end where it needs to be plugged in. I have my dash apart now and can't find the plug. I can see the wires coming down from the A-pillar but they disappear into the mess under the dash so I can't find where they go. Anyway, here's what I did find for an 01-07 Sequoia it "should" be the same for our trucks:
Usage Description Part Number
Limited 82171-0C080
Limited with moon roof 82171-0C110
SR5 82171-0C060
SR5 with accessory meter & moon roof 82171-0C100
SR5 with accessory meter 82171-0C070
SR5 with moon roof 82171-0C090
Thanks for all the info. I to am very interested in this, as I would like to do the same (install console).
My local dealer told me that I couldn't buy the console at all, so it sounds like maybe I need to try another dealer?
Thanks again, I hope you guys keep this one going!!
That info may be a huge help - I'll look into this later in the week. I'm hoping it helps to narrow down the 7 P/Ns to a more reasonable number for the harness in the pillar. Hell, of it came down to two $25ish harnesses I'd get tham both and eat the loss on the wrong one just to get this little project finished and a working solution for the group.
I have not been back to the dealer since, but I will probably buy the cheapest one of these that specifies the accessory meter.
Let us know how it works out for you. I still don't know where to plug the other end in.
