Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Installing Overhead Info Console", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Installed the console last night. Very easy. Two screws and the old one pulls out. The rest was just plug and play. Have not received the thermistor yet but hopefully today. Not sure about the wiring harness yet. My Tundra came with a sunroof and the plug end was square with many wires. So I am not sure if this one will work with the temp sensor or if I will have to replace that with the one I ordered. I will update as the parts arrive. Anyone have any use for a tan console for parts? (sunglasses holder, sunroof switches, lights) Cheap! $10 shipped
I'm completely new to this site and I just purchased an 06 Tundra on Friday and it came without the console display. It has the over head lights and sun glass tray but not the display and Home link. I was disapointed that my new truck or new to me truck did not have this so I'm reading your findings with huge interest.
I feel like I'm cheating, you fellows have been working on this for some time and here I am just reading and waiting. I hope you don't mind.
This is a great discussion you all have going. I will reserve my questions for later on about acquiring all needed parts.
there were 4 consoles that sold on ebay 2 weeks ago between $101 and $130 and this week each was pretty much listed one at a time and have sold for over $200.
Either people don't realize another will be listed next week, or they are just impatient.
One guy even sold one he bought after having it a month (guessing he doesn't know the site and couldn't figure out the wiring issue) and made an extra $50.
I'm waiting until all the impatient people have theirs I guess.
I'm not sure if this will be of any help, but I went to the dealer yesterday to try to get the part number for this wiring harness. The parts guy wasn't to optimistic about this whole thing working but he was helpful , and the technician (my brother-in-law) wasn't sure either, but he is going to look into it for me. Even if we get the right harness they are not sure that we'll be able to find the other end where it needs to be plugged in. I have my dash apart now and can't find the plug. I can see the wires coming down from the A-pillar but they disappear into the mess under the dash so I can't find where they go. Anyway, here's what I did find for an 01-07 Sequoia it "should" be the same for our trucks:
Usage Description Part Number
Limited 82171-0C080
Limited with moon roof 82171-0C110
SR5 82171-0C060
SR5 with accessory meter & moon roof 82171-0C100
SR5 with accessory meter 82171-0C070
SR5 with moon roof 82171-0C090
Priced out PN 82171-0C070 at Toyota Stealership yesterday. Dealer Cost is just over $35, wholesale is $50ish and retail is $59ish.
I didn't buy one as I'm moving from AL to IL in a few weeks and decided to wait till I'm in IL to purchase / install. Sorry to delay but I will most definately post results as soon as I try this PN out. Hope it works.
If anyone discovers that this wire bundle is NOT the one we need pls post - it cannot be returned.

The 0C070 harness that I got ahold of doesn't have the connector 90980-10805 at either end. I'm going to try to kludge one together with the correct pinout this weekend using the 0C070 harness that I have but there's an extra twist.
There are 12 or 13 wires at the roof plug depending on whether the console came from a Tundra or Sequoia and only 10 at the fuse block end. The 0C070 harness has a pigtail at the dash end with another connector that, according to the wiring manual, plugs somewhere behind the dash. I can't remember if it's 2 or 3 wires off the top of my head and actually thought it was for lighted vanity mirrors until I looked at the manual and turned it around.
Long story short: I don't think that harness 0C070 is a direct plug and play operation (not in my case anyway) but it might be workable now that I know the pinouts (thanks sbeausol).
I ordered the 0C070 harness about 2-3 weeks ago and they just shipped today. The parts should arrive next week and I'll let you guys know how it goes with my '04 DC.
So I've had some more time to make sense of this and I don't think it should be too difficult. Basically, on trucks without any options installed in the overhead module, there are only 3 wires occupied in connector 90980–10805 (see above), #1, #3, and #13. As shown in the pdf in the above post, the accessory meter (compass/temp) requires an additional 4 wires, #2, #4, #5, and #6. 4/5/6 should be easy as they run with the 3 existing wires (1/3/13) to the drivers side junction box into pins 1, 4 and 8 on connector 1M. The other wire from pin 2 should be the only tough one...
My parts came in yesterday and unfortunately PN 82171-0C070 is not the correct wiring harness. Like Phozmo said it does not have the connector 90980-10805 at either end. Looks like we'll have to try another route.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Got all my parts in. Still need help. I have a 2006 SR5 double cab with sunroof. The wiring to the overhead console has the correct connector and every pin has a wire.(No empty spots) I installed the overhead console and the compass works and everything has power. I also installed the thermistor but still i do not get any reading on the display. Any ideas. Im about to give up and bring it to Toyota, but you would think this would be working at this point.
I also bought a wiring harness that I do not need.
part number 82171-0C100 it has all the correct connectors including the sunroof. The only empty slot I beleive is pin 2. If anyone is interested I will sell it for what I bought it for. $80 (My truck already had 82171-0C112 installed)
Fellows,
If I could ask you a question about all of this. I have read with interest about the overhead console and to be truthful I am a bit confused. I have an 06 DC with the overhead console without the temp or compass or Homelink. It has the lights and sunglass holder. Could one of you fellows explain what parts I need if I purchase an overhead with the other options. It seems to me that I need a wiring harness but which one?>
T-Nick -- can you make sense of the wires you have with the wiring diagram shown in the above post (pdf)? My take is that the compass/temp part needs four wires to function. pin #6 is power, pin #4/#5 come from the thermister and pin #2 ends up connecting to the speedometer. If you have all those wires then i would think you should be all set....
T-Nick is your connector the O8, like the one Sbeausol has posted above?
I am a little confused on why different trucks have different type connectors. I understand having different wires in the connectors, but it seems to me that all the connectors going to the overhead console would be the same size and shape.
there are in fact two connectors on trucks equipped with a sunroof. O8 as shown above and M6:
Pins 9/10/11/12 from O8 go into M6 at pins 3/4/9/10. Thus, 12/13 pins will be occupied on O8 if you have a moon roof. Nonetheless the overhead meter still goes through O8 since M6 is exclusive to the moon roof
Congrats sbeausol on your recent ebay win and thanks for your input here.
I finally got one as well and it has the 08 connector and is full of wires on the console side. Sequoia. yes, i finally got impatient. but not 243$ worth.
If I tried to plug it into your pic of 08, #13 is the only missing wire. From looking at the colors of wire, the top two rows go to the homelink while the bottom 4 go to moonroof switches. The white, black, and and lightest green of the map lights and their switches disappear into the electrical tap.
Earlier I checked my current wire harness and it does only have 3 wires and the config seemed to be the same.
Unfortunately/fortunately I'm getting married and going to Cancun so I won't be able to play with this for a week or so.
Also, your M6 pic is showing the infamous red X. I'm curious to see it though. and while I have experience making my own wiring harnesses for old arcade game cabinets, I may be interested in T-Nick's extra harness should it be available on my return.
