This is a discussion thread titled "Installing Overhead Info Console", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just bought a used 2004 Tundra Double cab and I love it. It has everything I wanted except the overhead information console with the Homelink buttons. I just hate those blanks overhead, staring at me, mocking me...and my 3 garage door openers I have handing on the visor.
Any idea how I would go about installing one of these? I've looked at a mirror replacement that has homelink, compass, temp and auto dimming, but the blanks would still mock me.
I know its not what your exactly looking for but toyota does sell the mirror w/compass and temp. its a factory part and an easy install. my buddy is a toyota mech i ordered it today. i dont know the price yet ill let you know.
MZ3 did you ever install that thing? Did it work out for you?
After your post, I got kind of interested in the Homelink setup too. I have an '02 Tundra so there is no overhead console (at least not like the ones in the Sequoia). I ended up buying a used set of Highlander visors that has the Homelink transmitter with 3 buttons. I already had some visors from a Tundra Limited that I had installed, so the wiring was there (in the visor). I just took the setup out of the Highlander visor and carefully installed it in my visor. Viola! Homelink is installed and running!

What year truck did you install this in?
Apparently your truck already had the wiring harness in the headliner?
Do you have a number for the dealer you got the overhead console for?
ANy info would be great - I just bought an 05 Tundra Double Cab and would like to add the overhead console driver info with HomeLink.
Thanks!!!!
yea a part number would be great, I looked on their website, and found the console, but the price was over 300 bucks, if you have the part numbers just for the actual display and buttons, that would be great, as I would not need the plastic enclosure or the maplights/sun roof switch
Is this thread dead? I am looking for an overhead info console for my 2006 double cab. I just bought my Tundra last Tuesday and it is sweeeeet!!! Any help is greatly appreciated.
I second SMA24's request....Does anyone have any further information??
I just got my Tundra DC and have purchased an overhead console (P/N 83290-0C021-385.21 charcoal) online in the hopes that it's a straight swap with the existing console that has the maplights.
I've done it before with an '06 4Runner overhead console so I could get Homelink - just pulled out the old console, disconnected the wiring harness and replaced it with the new console and it works great - but that install didn't have the complexitites of a meter with outside temp and compass.
I"ll let you know how it goes in the coming weeks.

Yeah, I've been watching that one too... they rip you on the shipping and handling @ $25 so I'll probably lose interst as the price goes up towards the end of the auction.
I wrongly assumed a very similar looking Homelink unit from an '05 Sienna's overhead console would be a form-fit-function match for the Tundra and it wasn't... $70 pissed away on that. However, in the process I quickly learned that the stock Tundra harness with it's two wires isn't exactly plug and play with the multitude of wires that come out of the back of the Homelink/Compass/Thermo unit. I never did find a combintation that would bring the displays to life.
So, I think my current strategy is to head to a local auto recycler to see if I can find a wrecked '05/'06 Tundra Limited and pull all of the harness, thermometer sensor, and the head unit vs. the ebay route. Seems kinda worthless to spend $100 for Homelink while I still have a 3-button Genie opener at the house.
Well I spent a couple of weeks looking for the console online....couldn't find it and eventually bought a brand new unit from a dealer for a shade under $400. What a rip-off!!!
Plugged it in and the homelink works great but nothing from the display though - the wiring harness in the headliner has only three wires going to it whereas the display has about eight wires.
The dealer sells the temperature sensor for about $120 but I would still need a new wiring harness to get it power to the display, so I've asked the dealer to try and source the wiring harness for me.
