Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Stainless Steel Tublar Nerf Bars", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Don't know if one brand is any better than the others. For me, it's more difficult getting in and out because I don't use them as a step. I can't climb into the truck using them without hitting my head on the top of the door frame. My wife and son love them though. Made it much easier for them. They look great on my black '02.
I'm short and stalky and my wife is about average height. Both of us have a bit of trouble climbing in so I just bought steps for mine.
I took a look at some from pro shops. Good quality for $200-$225 for the black powder coated set. ... BUT... in looking at the these, three issues that I didn't like kept coming up; either they had to be mounted on the body(I didn't want anything to do with that) or there was a plate that mounted to the frame to which the tube steps attached(didn't like the idea of connecting to bracket which connected to the frame). And third, be careful of where aftermarket step manufacturers place the "step". Some didn't take into account that we have suicide doors and that the second step being way in the back did absolutely no good....
SO..........
I bought the factory ones online from Metroplex Toyota in TX($275 including shipping). Their price was ~$20 cheaper than from Carson Toyota.(and its' the exact same step) It bolts directly up to the frame with NO drilling(I called and asked to make sure). They sell them in chrome also.
I got an email this morning saying they're out of the steps I wanted. I ordered them two days ago so it kinda sucks. I'll call Carson now. Hopefully they'll have 'em in stock....
UPDATE:
In the end I got them from the orignal guy at Metroplex Toyota. Got me the set for $200(total including shipping). Put them on in a half hour. Bolt right up to frame. Worked out Great!
I HAVE WESTIN NERF BARS. I HAVE HAD THEM ON MY T-100 FOR 2 YEARS WITH NO PROBLEM. I ALSO HAD THEM PUT ON MY TUNDRA JUST AFTER I GOT IT. THE WIFE HAS TROUBLE GETTING IN THE TRUCK WITHOUT THEM.
I have the factory ones in chrome, which are great.
I found this site that you might wanna check out. For Tundra the black is $130 and the chrome is $240. They're Bully Bars made of T304 Stainless and are a direct bolt-on job with no drilling.

I'm very happy with my Smittybilt Stainless Steel Nerfs I put on my Tundra right when I got it. I use them to get into the truck to save wear and tear on the side of my leather captains chairs.
I got my Bully steps off of ebay for $239. They mount to the frame using brackets. Kind of tricky getting installed right, but they look and function great.
I bought them to help people get in the back seat, and they work wonderfully for that.
I put on the ICI SS nerfs from AZTRUCKS.COM. I like them. There are Two steps for the front and rear doors. I have a couple of pics of them in my gallery.
