Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "LINE-X smell?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have a LINE-X liner in the back of my 2000 Tundra with a shell. I have had it in for over 2 years and it has held up great. It is a great product. I have one question. The LINE-X has a polyurethane smell it was been there since day one. I thought after a couple of months it would go away. It has not. It would be no big deal except I have asthma and I liked sleeping in the back of my truck. With the smell in an enlaced space the asthma kicks in. (So, yes I am allergic to my truck.... Argh... ) I have tried the LINE-X clear coat on a small test patch and it made no difference.
Any one got any ideas? I am about ready to either take it out or get a new truck bed.
(LINEXRATED1 please comment if any ideas thanks..)
I'm unaware of anyone ever having made such an observation. Being around this product day-in/day-out, having it applied to SEVERAL shop trucks (i.e. - we have 6 at this location alone) and interacting with literally hundreds (if not thousands) of other owners, I've not experienced what you're describing. One of the attributes of this product is that it "cures" very quickly. Once cured, it's virtually inert. Just a thought... is there any chance that your bedliner is a custom color match? Because of the materials/process used to achieve color matches, there's a chance there may be some residual odor that may be noticable, especially in a confined, enclosed space.
I'll do some research and see if there's any other data out there that might be of interest to you. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or if I can be of service!
Interesting problem. Albeit my Line-X install was a couple/three months ago, I've had no problems whatsoever with it. I've hauled LVL beams, traditional lumber, and about 1400 pounds of lava rock in a sitting. Very resilient and does not smell.

Thanks very much. No I do not have a custom color. Its straight black. (Again, as far as holding up to abuse it has been a great prodcut.)
Also, I had it in the sun all last summer to try and get it to cure. Although it is less it did not go away.
Lastly, I tried to PM you and it is disababled not sure if you were aware of this.

Hmmm... odd indeed. I checked the options, etc., all are set to "enable". BUT, for some reason, it wouldn't allow me to send you a pm either, so... I'll check with administration!!
The cap or shell is fiber glass. It is not the Fiber Glass I am smelling its the LINE-X. I had the LINE-X put on before the CAP so I know its the LINE-X.
Checked on a new Bed. 3K.. Agh... Anyone want to trade Truck beds in Oregon.... or Washington... Heck even Northern CA.. It has a nice LINE-X coatinging... My Truck is White...
