Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "rear view mirror", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
you could get one of those broadway mirrors that the import cars use. they just slip over your stock one. they are also easy to find at any import shop.
there's also mirrors that have LCDs in it to view images from a back-up camera. also there are the autodimming rear views as well. check out this site: rear view mirrors

Hi! I am using a broadway mirror for my 2002 tundra. I LOVE it! They are clear, offer a great view of the rear and sides. Made in Japan. The mirror slips on the original very securely and is pretty large (but thats a good thing!) People always ask me what kind of mirror it is. You can buy them on ebay. Just search "broadway mirror" and you will see a bunch... No need to mess with wires or glue. Good luck!
I've been thinking about getting one of these. I think I'll swing by my local rice-rocket shop and see how much they are selling it for. I hate the stock rear view mirror. It's too small and I'm always having to adjust it every time I drive.
Well I too installed a Gentex NVS mirror in my Sequoia (no comp or temp). Only $109 from Mito Corp.(99+10 for the toyota clip) Although I did not wire it according to "Gentex" or Toyota.
Well its been warm here in Texas, and I did not want to rip the entire car apart, so I just found the correct power wire from the overhead console that is controlled by the ignition and there you go... a nice short 8" wire run. Both +12 and GND are provided in that wire harness.
I have an 01 limited without sunroof. You can tap into the Black-Red wire for +12 and the White-Black wire for ground. (Please verify with volt meter). The mirror states that it will draw 5A of power. LOL I bench tested the unit and the most current drain that I saw was only 0.21A during max darkening. I did install an inline fuse of 2A in to the hot line (vendor recommends 5A), I don’t see why I need a five at this point, but I have not "froze" the mirror yet to see what the current draw goes to.
One downfall to using the overhead console was the lack of "reverse" light lead, so that feature could not be enabled, but I figure that I can always push the OFF button instead. But with only needing to take out 4 screws of the OH console and 1 for the drivers sun visor clip it was much easier to install. The whole operation took about 15 min. (+15 min for the custom wire harness modification, cleanup, and soldering).
