Aftermarket hinge extender??? DC rear door 90 degrees???
I was wondering if anyone knew of an easy retrofit aftermarket hinge extender for a 2004 Tundra Double Cab back door....It would be nice if the back door extended 90degrees to the body....I've had times when I wanted to load something and it would have fit provided the door opened 90degrees.....I was thinking there might be a dual stage hinge that would work to open the door and then allow some movement away from the body and further extension....just making the current hinge travel longer would appear to allow the back door to hit the front.....the other more radical option would be to make the back door a full suicide door. I've seen kits for this but they range in the $1000+ range......so anyone who knows of a simply aftermarket hinge that would allow this would be great!!!

BUMP?????
I am really in need of advice now as I received a dog ramp for LUNA for Christmas and it will not work unless I:
1)modify the ramp flange to allow a skewed "attachment" to the truck
2) modify the door hinge to allow the door to open 90 degrees to the body
she's a little over 8 months and already 81 pounds...wont be long before I can't lift her into the truck and jumping in and out is not an option as it is detrimental to their hips and shoulders once she is 120 lbs!!!!

Re: Aftermarket hinge extender??? DC rear door 90 degrees???
Finally found a sound solution to the problem of loading my 110 lb Greater Swiss Mtn dog into the back of the Tundra despite the fact the rear door doesn't open 90 degrees and ramps if placed as designed are obstructed by the door.....the solution is the Petloader Mini!!
you can see pics of both the Pet Loader mini and the ramp in my photo gallery HERE

your dog can't get into the truck on it's own? I'd say sell the ramp and dog and get a new dog lol

TundrasurfBum,
yes my dog could TRY and get in and out. However, seeing she is 110lb draft dog it is not healthy for her, or any dog for that matter, to jump down 37+" from seat to ground landing all their weight on their front shoulders!!...you should try it yourself and land on your hands to see how comfy it would be!! BTW she's extremely smart she's never tried to jump down as she knows how dangerous it is.
that's the best way to pop a joint or snap a tendon on these heavy, stocky breeds....they were built for strength/pulling not agility....so no I'm keeping her AND looking out for her health so we can have a long pleasurable life together. I urge all those who have dog that frequently ride in the back to not only get a ramp but also get a harness to get them seat belted in for their protection AND yours (a 100+lbs hitting you in the back of the head upon sudden stops is certain death for you)

surfbum,
yeah I know you were just ribbing me but I wasn't kidding about it being bad for dogs to jump out especially "heavy" dogs like our....I really hope for your dogs sake you'll consider getting some type of assist (ramp, stairs, crane etc) otherwise you're going to be paying alot of medical bills when it gets older...you are destroying its shoulder joints jumping down that height....please be kind to your dog and prevent any more damage being done.
