Default Sliding Power Rear Window?

Has Anyone installed one of these sliding power rear windows? I was interested in getting one of these although not sure about how well it works or if any leakage in the seals. Seems a bit pricey from this place so maybe I will be shopping around a bit. But what I really want is the kind of power sliding rear window that the 4runners have where the whole window slides down. I loved the draft and circulation of air in my old 4runner when I had my front windows down with the rear all the way down. Does anyone know if anyone sells a kit like this? If not maybe I'll just be stuck to this kind down here.

I have one made by C.R. Laurance and am more than happy with it. No squeak or leaks. I t squeaked after it was first put on and I rubbed a little wd40 on the window edge and has been quiet ever since, that was about 1 1/2 years ago. The whole unit is tinted about the same as the rear side windows and would buy it again. I have the switch on the lower right side of dash, get a nice air flow in the cab anytime I need it with a flick of the switch.

Yellbird, is the middle window the only one you can open, just like the stock but without the power? And did you install it yourself and if you did was it hard? Any tips or is it straight forward? I know its been a while since you got it but any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

I had it put in and yes the middle window only slides.
I know the owner of the Glass shop that installed it and i believe I paid around $440.00 for everthing.

I don't know how hard it was to install but I believe the hard part was removing the oem window. If I remember correctly there are four (1 each corner) type of rivets holding it in and was hard to remove without breaking them off, because one was broke off so I ended up thowing it away. You don't use the old frame the new window has it's own frame so I just pitched it.

Default Sliding Power Rear Window

- DAVSER -

I also have the C.R. Laurence Power Rear Sliding Window
in my truck (did this mod about 14 months ago...) and I
love it. Have had no problems with leakage or anything
else. Definitely needs to be installed by a glass shop
(or at least someone who has the tools and knowledge)
though. Our rear windows are "encapsulated"; unlike
the "older" Toyota pick-ups which were installed via
a "pop-in" and "pop-out" gasket system. As far as I know
no one makes a power rear window for the Tundra that
slides up and down; only one that opens left and right.
I paid $290.00 for the window and a local glass shop
installed it for $75.00. Hope this helps....

Oh well, ay least I got the Power Antenna mod done, and I know I'm problaby one of the first tundras to get this one.

If I were you I would pull out you complete back seat and then stop at a auto glass repair shop and they may decide it is an easy job. It is not that hard once everything is removed, no cutting involved.

I guess I spoke too soon about just us having the power slider...go figure . Well, I did find a glass local glass shop that would install the C.R Laurance for 100 bucks. But, they also said that they could do that 4runner style power window that I wanted (the whole window slides down as one piece) for $700 which includes all parts and labor. Do you think thats worth it? Thats almost the same price as getting a power sun roof. I really loved the draft that my old 4runner had. And maybe I would be the first to have this .

Exclamation CYA

Just to be safe......get it IN WRITING !!!

Its too easy for these places to come up with "hidden charges" when they have your truck all apart.

I can get the window locally right here, but I'm still looking for a local shop that will do a power window.

Question

I'm interested in this as well, but where can I find a good price for the C.R. Laurance rear power window? The lowest I've seen is going for $400 plus without shipping

Hi
I notived that Dianne posted that the 2003 LTD will have an electric sliding read window, maybe as an option? So y'all might want to wait until the 2003 is available and see if it the dealers carry it...
