Default A/C compressor running in the "off" mode

Anyone have a problem with their A/C compressor running with the A/C button "off". Coming home tonight it was nice and cool out and I turned off the A/C and put the temperature control to the coldest setting to "vent" in some cool air. Problem is that the air I got was cold, colder than the outside temperature. I pulled over and checked my compressor and sure enough it was running even with the button "off". Got home and checked it again and the compressor still cycled on and off even though I didn't have the A/C on. Not good for my gas mileage and life of the compressor. Any feedback appreciated on this one, could be a relay/switch. Thanks.

I think the compressor comes on when the dial is set to defog and possibly some other settings, even with the a/c button off. Check the owner's manual to see if it says anything about that.

There is another switch for the A/C that is attached to the air control behind the knob. When you're in Defrost or mixed defrost & floor, the A/C is switched on from this point. The indicator light on the A/C pushbutton doesn't light in this case.

Thanks Guys,

I didn't realize that in defrost or defrost/floor mode that the A/C compressor was tied into that. Probably helps with getting cool
air to the windshield.

Nothing in the manual relates the compressor to the mode selector switch.
