This is a discussion thread titled "Tsb Bo029-01 for broken access door window hinge", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
With 30k miles on the 01, I have never opened the access door pop-out windows, nor have I ever let any passengers do so - mostly due to the warnings on this site. But since I was leaving my truck with the dealer this week, I decided to try opening the pop-out. On only the second open/close cycle, it sure enough snapped the little plastic hinge and would no longer close. When I told this to the service guy, he said he wasn't aware of any TSB, so I gave him the number, thanks again to this site. However, I was later told that they would only replace the broken hinge (with the new replacement P/N), but not the other side, because it was not broken and therefore not covered under the TSB. Maybe he didn't realise that the TSB called out a different P/N. So I guess the moral to this is if you're going to get the TSB replacement, make sure your dealer's familiar with TSB BO029-01, and if all else fails, wait until they are both in need of replacement before going in for service. It's up to you how you want to interpret that.
NaHekili, I was surprised to read your post. I read the website posts often (I thought) and I've never read warnings about the frailty of the side pop-out windows. My kids are active and everytime they are in the backseat they open and close both the side windows and the sliding back window. In fact they will do it several times each trip. Never had a problem. Of course, it it broke I'd have the dealer fix it (thanks for the TSB#) but I wouldn't avoid using them. It's a truck and the windows serve a useful ventilation function. I think its refreshing to get the air coming through the windows instead of always using the AC. My suggestion is to use the side and back windows freely - they are there to be used!
My passenger side broke a few weeks ago. My friend thought he was storng but, I had him come back to the real world. I'll be sure to mention this when I bring my truck in for an alignment at the dealership.
I want to thank you for bringing this to my attention. My grandson broke the the clamp shortly after I bought the truck. I never connected that there might be a TBS about it. I have almost 35 K on the truck. Took it in last Friday and now it's better than new. Membership does pay!
One of mine broke too, the second time my son opened it. Don't think the other has ever even been opened. Guess I will try it before I take it in. Thanks again.
