Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Retrax group purchase", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
First time here so bear with me.
I've been reading all of the pros and cons regarding the bed cover issue. Is very apparent that there isn't one cover to fit everyones needs. For me a roll cover is what I need and I have narrowed the search to Retrax and Peragon. The draw back to Peragon is the room it takes to start the accordian action. It would seem that a tall item could shift forward and the top wouldn't open? Someone correct me if this is not true. Anyway I spoke with, I believe Tim, at Retrax this morning and was really impressed by the amount of information he shed on the subject, without bad mouthing other products. The Retrax pros for me are, the ability to open the unit from the tailgate the, small roll and the ability to use something like the TracRac system for hauling kayaks. The negative is, of course, price. When I asked about a group purchase he said they would knock of at least 100.00 if 4 to 5 tops were sold at a time. Anyone interested?
mspike,A coulpe of days ago there was talk of a group purchase on my asking for feedback on the Retrax from users.Check it out.
I to have read all the threads been all over on the net looking at the different covers.I also talked to a person at Retrax.I wish some TS people would give their opinions.
It seems to be the best cover for my sometimes need an open bed /need locked waterproof storage use of the truck.
Keep watching the board.

I am working with a vendor right now on a group purchase on the Retrax roll top bed covers. It's almost completely set up. Just working out some bugs in the web page. The price looks like it will be a little over $100 less than the normal internet price of $879. And shipping will be a little less than Retrax charges. Just hang tight for a few days and it will be posted.

I'm interested! I just talked to Randy at the company that makes Retrax. It sounds like a great product. He informed me of the advantages over Pace-Edwards. Some of the advantages are that it is sturdier, the rails don't have to be greased, and it is designed so that no matter where you open or close it from it never gets crooked.
However, he quoted $889 plus shipping.
Have you made this arrangement yet?

I believe it only comes in one finish. I was looking for a white top myself but the Retrax has so many advantages for me, over the other roll up covers that I'll settle for black. the good part is the finish can be waxed so many of the vinyl covers turn chalky looking after a while in the sun. A couple of things I have not seen mentioned here are, Retrax will relieve the frame around the stake pockets for no additional charge and they make a tail gate gasket that keeps the dust out.
A few of the key differences are that the Retrax is made with Lexan (the same product used in bullet proof glass and fighter jet windshields) surrounding Aluminum beams. It is thicker, stonger, and longer lasting than the Pace-Edwards products. Also the pace product gives you options to keep the cover open at 4 different possitions, where the Retrax has a bearing system which allows you to keep it open at any possition. They say that with the pace product you have to stand directly centered behind your truck when you open or close the cover with the pull strap, or it will not open/close correcty. With the Retrax product you can stand at the side of your truck, and using a pull strap is not neccessary. It was a release/lock button on the end of the cover. The pace product has requires that you grease the channels every once in a while, while the Retrax has sealed bearings. The Pace product is known to shake at high way speeds and makes a lot of noise. Retrax claims to be quiet. I'm sure you could paint the cover if thats what you really wanted to do.
