Default Rearview Mirror Removal

Just wondering if someone could tell me an easy way to remove the rearview mirror on a 2002 Tundra. I understood that a person should turn the mirror 90 degrees left or right and then pull down and the mirror would come off. Mine will not budge and I don't want to break anything. Would appreciate any information that anybody might have on this subject. Thanks.

Cool

On mine, turning 90 degrees in either direction DID remove it. It did require more force than I thought it would need...

Guess I'll try again. Does the entire base which is against the windshield rotate 90 degrees or does just rotating the mirror itself release it. I assumed the base had to turn and it seems stuck pretty good. Thanks.

On my OEM, the base is manufacturered into the windshield and should NOT twist.

OK thanks, so when the mirror comes off in your hand you are holding the mirror and the stem is attached but their is no rectangular base attached to the mirror when it comes off, everything is still attached to the windshield. See I was under the impression that turning the mirror released it but that sliding downward pulled part of that rectangular base off with the mirror. Thanks again.
