I've tried looking/calling companies that manufacturer aftermarket rear bumpers but, found no luck. So, I decided to try and fabricate one myself. You can see what it suppose to look like after it's done, in 'my photos'.
TMS2U: Can't wait to see how your rear bumper turns out.
Let me know when your finished because it sounds excatly what I was dreaming about with the spare tire mount .
I thought about modding a nissan one.I see you surf :-)TMS2U.
I was cutting the steel piping this weekend. I pretty much got everything cut. Now I need to have a couple of the tubings bent. Then I need to grind the end of each piece in order to fit it to the side of the pipe for welding. I'm thinking of having the base pipe made out of 1.5" piping. Instead of 2". The thickness will be less from 3/16" to 1/8". This will save on weight on the rear end.
I want to have it finished for the jam. I'm hoping I can.
Well, I just got word that the stock I'm looking for is in. Originally I wanted to go with an 3x8 rect. tube, but I woulda needed to order a 20ft piece, so I decided to scale back to a 3x6. Both 1/8 and 3/16 are available, but I have not decided on the thickness just yet. When I pick it up tomorrow, I'll choose.
I want to get mine powder coated, but thats probably gonna add $150-200 to the project!

I picked up my material(steel tubing) at a local salvage yard. They had new and used pieces. The used pieces only had some rust marks on them so I bought those. It was only $0.32/lb. Since they didn't have small pieces, I had to buy the 20'.
I went to local fab shop to see how much it would cost for them to provide the material and they were asking about $3.00/ft. $60.00 for one 20' tubing was too much when I got 2 20' tubing for about $40.00 at the salvage yard.
Thats a significant savings as long as things arent too rusted. Trying to weld rusty metal is no fun (arc blow) and wire brushing is a pain (unless you use the drill attachment kind ) I was thinking to try a yard as well, if my other options were not readily available. The metal supply place down here has a huge remnant section with most everything
