Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Bug Shield / Hood Deflector", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have the Toyota bug shield that mount to the inside of the grill and hides the top part of the grill. Just recently some idiot felt the need to stand on the hood of my truck and broke it. I am going to need to replace it soon and am not to crazy about spending another $150 on the Toyota one. I want to know if anyone knows of or has one that is made similar to the FormFit. I am not too fond of the two pieces that go down between the grill and the headlights on the FormFit. The only ones I have found so far that don't have those two pieces and still go around the grill instead of hiding it attach with double sided tape, and I DON"T want that. If anyone has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate them.
Thanks,
Tundra00
Tundra00,
Forget what I said. From Toyota Guys the price is $179. They do however have the bug guard made by Focus which comes down the front painted portion of the grill for $109.

I got my bug guard from qualitybumper.com http://www.qualitybumper.com. It bolts on both sides of the hood and has lips that goes through the grille. I don't remember the brand, something like EGR or something. But it looks sweet on my truck. I got the smoke black shield and it blends in well with my black tundra. It costs $49.95 and with shipping the total was $62. It is a great deal. It fits perfectly around the hood including the headlights.
Hope this helps,
Barry
That is a great deal if the fit and quality are good. How do you rate it? On the other hand, I got mine off e-bay. It was a brand new Toyota bug shield in the Toyota box and from a dealer unloading them on e-bay. Don't remember exactly what I paid but I seem to remember something in the high 80's or low 90's...

Although I have only had my tundra for a week and half and put the guard on the same day, it seems to be great. It fits perfectly, I wish I had pictures but I am still waiting to get them developed. It is your best bet.
Well I have the Form Fit Bug Shield that I purchased from Carson Toyota through Steve Ganz. I have been extremely happy with it. If you want to see what it looks like go to this link;
I wrote about this bugshield problem a few months ago! I had mine on for a couple of months. When I decided to take it off for the winter, and wax under it, I was in for a treat!! It had taken all the paint off the hood! It is sandwitched between the grill and the hood. It will put some pressure right were the grill meets the hood, and crack the paint. Look in the area of where the bolts of the grill line up with the hood. Since that is where the pressure will come from!! Toyota paid to have the hood and fenders repainted from the bad design of the guard! I hope this was a good description. I'm afraid to have you guys look under your bugshields. Good luck!
Was this a factory installed OEM bug shield, or was it one you installed yourself? I just bought the Toyota screen for my 2000, but am hesitating to put it on after reading your post. Thanks!

I am using a OEM Toyota bug shield and it has been fine for over 20 months. If something goes wrong, it is covered under warranty. I would put it on and not worry. I think it does a good job and it is OEM protected.

My shield is made by Quality, I put it on almost 2 years ago, it's very strong, no drill, it doesn't go down by the headlights like the form fit. It's been through car wash fans, high speed driving, and a lot of heat. was only something like $60, I got it online, but now can't remember the name of the place. Still looks good.
