Interior & ExteriorDiscussions about the interior, and exterior of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Anybody use Bugflector II for bug/rock guard?", within the Interior & Exterior forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I don't really like the OEM (too expensive and drilling required) nor the form fit (ugly) bug guards. I have a Bugflector II on my Suburban and like it. It's nothing fancy but is cheap and gets the job done. It looks good too.
I think they make them for Tundras too....does anybody have it and if so, how do you like it?
Bug Flector II does make one for the tundra. The only difference between it and the factory one is that it has some vampire lookin' pieces that come down on both sides of the grill. However, I did see a Tundra with the bug flector where he had cut off those extra pieces. To be honest, you couldn't really tell the difference between the two without having youre face buried in it. With just a little bit of time spent on it you could save alot of money.
($112 VS 40 something!)
I have a Bugflector II on my Tundra and love it. It cost me right at $40 which is much better than many of the others I have seen including the oem one. I like it because it doesnt have the ugly fang looking peices and you dont have to drill anything. The adhesive works great and looks very good as well. I highly recommend it. I was tired of getting little rock dings and this baby works like a charm.
The one for the tundra installs using an adhesive foam tape that runs the length of the bugguard. It doesn't move one bit or make any sound at speeds up to 90 mph. Very easy to put on and can be removed leaving no holes. I didnt want to drill anything so I went with this. Very happy. Pull the tape off and stick on. Takes about 5 minutes to line up and apply. I say go for it.
Does anyone have a picture of it installed? I am thinking of going with the X-Pel but this maybe a good option. There is no way I am drilling holes in my hood.....
Yes it is on the paint, right above the chrome surrounding of the grille. But it should come off with a remover. It is 3M tape and have not had a problem with it in the past.
I picked up one from EGR through JC Whitney. They had another brand that would've also worked. The EGR mounts behind the grille. I decided to pass on the tape. Tape can lose it's adhesion over time and with my luck the thing would fly off a couple years from now and wing a girl scout selling cookies or a little old lady crossing the street. I have the IS grille and it fits niclely.
I just put on a Form Fit after returning a Bugflector. I did not like how the Bugflector fit the contour of the hood/headlights. Form fit does not just rely on tape to hold it on. Locks in behind the grill and looks sweet....at least on by black Tundra.
