Default malfunctioned backup camera for 04's TLC

Anyone know if it's possible to hookup an after market camera to the factory harness? Or a source to get a wiring-diagram for the backup camera harness? Dealer wants $550 for a replacement camera... thanks

Default Re: malfunctioned backup camera for 04's TLC

I imagine yu could do this, however make sure to check the power of the OE cam on the circuit is either 12v or 6v. This will determine what cam is doable in the aftermarket domain.

I believe the OE camera is subbed out to "Eclipse"(Fujitsu-10).
But the aftermarket Eclipse's are all 6volt. Costing $260 on average wherever yu buy it. I have a Sanyo 12v cam in my Nav equipped Highlander. It works flawlessly and gives three different digitally corrected views @ $300 for the cam alone. Installation was time consuming though done myself. But a shop quoted me $300 just for the installation. I did it myself. If There was an OE available I would have gone this route.

Yu might run into a problem with the OE mounting.

Although the OE is expensive, It would be a drop in replacement and easier to install. Much easier. The aftermarket cam mounts require a different method to attach where the OE cam is right now.

This might be cost prohibitive and in the end The OE cam would be the best route to take.

Try locating a used TLC cam from a dismantler, That would be My 1st choice if $$ is an issue! In the end it could be cheaper.

Will yu be doing the work yourself???
Get back to me.
