Land CruiserGeneral discussion forum
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra 2UZFE in '98 Landcruiser?", within the Land Cruiser forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I just bought a 1998 (2UZFE) Landcruiser that broke the timing belt. Since it's an interference engine, I'm preparing for the worst. My question is, will a Tundra 2UZFE motor fit in the Landcruiser without modification? Just curious if anyone has done this swap. I know the motor designation is the same, but just curious how many parts I will need to swap if any. Ideally I would like to use the VVTi motor/ECM.

Yikes. Broken timing belt..not good.
I know the 99-03 model year Tundras came with the 4.7 built in Japan. Your best bet is to get a 03-07 model year 4 runner 2UZFE engine as they are built in the same plant as the LandCruiser which likely makes it more likely to fit easier with LC.
Do you know anyone that has done the Vvti swap/conversion? Not sure if it's possible using the 4 speed auto. Didn't the Vvti's all have the 5-speed auto? Are the Tundra years you mentioned Vvti? Damn, too many questions....

You bought it with a broken timing belt or it broke after you bought it? Either way, it sounds bad.
How many miles on the truck?

It cannot be done (well, not reasonably anyways) and has been covered in depth on ih8mud.
And a Tundra engine cannot be swapped into a land cruiser. Too many differences in the ECM, HP rating, etc.

I pulled the motor apart on Saturday and found that the timing belt is not broken. I do have a few slightly bent valves due to a bolt that was dropped down the intake. The lady I bought it from said she had the starter replaced a month ago and since then it has ran like crap. Guess we know why now. I can get by with having a few valves replaced and getting the heads reworked, but man, with the price of machine work out here is CA., I may as well pop in a low mileage motor. I'm having a tough time getting the interchange info though.... Most yards are saying 98-2000 2uzfe will fit but don't know if it's the Landcruiser or the Tundra variant. Guess the Vvti is out of the question. Thanks for the info guys, and i will kep you updated on the interchange!
hello, so how much youve paid for the LC, considering the damage? also how many miles on it

Should not make a difference if it is Tundra or LC engine. Both engines are 2uzfe motors.
The pistons look great, so I'm doing the top end. Paid $5k for it. 108k miles. Heads are at the machine shop getting fixed. Didn't want to end up getting a used motor and finding out something is different. They look the same on the outside, but cam timing may be different I'vebeen told. Hollander interchange book says different motors? Can't wait to get her running.
