Default Help with door lock actuator or electrical issues

2 years ago the nylon antenna mast snapped in my 1999 Land Cruiser. I replaced it with a new antenna w/motor housing but after installing the motor, I had trouble feeding the nylon line from the antenna down into the new housing so I put tape over the hole and continued on with my life (not a big radio fan).

Not too long after installing the antenna motor, driving on the highway, I noticed the right side passenger mirror (same side as antenna) would start moving outward on its own then abruptly snap back into position, like a running dog reaching the end of its leash.
I assumed it was somehow related to the antenna motor but since I’m not a big highway driver, out of sight, out of mind.

Fast forward 1 year. This past June, the right front passenger door started unlocking on its own after 5-10 seconds after locking with the remote. I also noted the sound was a bit softer than the normal clunk. I did a little research into this phenomenon and concluded at some point the power door lock actuator would need to be replaced. At some point

Ok, now picture this…Out of town, early Black Friday morning (The Friday after Thanksgiving) 3:30am, 34°F, windy with light rain. Dashing to the next shopping center for early bird bargains, I turn off the engine and attempt to open the door to get out, but the door would not open!
I tried locking/unlocking with remote, without the remote, finally climbing over the center rest (couldn’t miss store opening) and exiting through the front passenger door which by the way, now was locking/unlocking in perfect harmony with the other 3 doors(including tailgate). Go figure.

When I returned, the remote worked on all 5 (including tailgate) doors but when I stopped and tried to get out, the same thing happened. I discovered I could lower the window and open the door from the outside then raise the window, but this is no life for a Land Cruiser (and especially its owner).

At this point I thought both front driver and front passenger power door lock actuators needed replacing ASAP, but after reading a few posts I’m now leaning towards the antenna motor/mast as the initial cause of my beloved Land Cruiser’s departure of perfection.

Now that I spent almost my entire yearly budget on holiday gifts, I have no choice but to attempt this repair myself. If the repair is so intricately difficult and/or requires specialized tools, I’ll have no choice but to take out a second mortgage.

Any help or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Default Re: Help with door lock actuator or electrical issues

go to Ih8mud.com. someone on that dedicated land cruiser site can probably help you.My 99 locks and unlocks itself intermittantly then works fine. i just unlock it manually when it does. I don't think your antennae has anything to do with it.
