Question Rear diff won't lock

Hey, I'm new here so I'm getting used to everything! I have a 1998 Land Cruiser and I've been trying to get the rear differential to lock but it doesn't seem to be working.

I put it into 4L and then turn the switch to lock the rear; the indicator light blinks but that's about it.

I know I probably won't need to lock the rear anytime soon (even though it would have helped during last week's snowstorm!) but I was just wondering what might be wrong with it and if it's an easy fix.

Thanks a lot guys and sorry if this seems like a completely stupid question!

- Rich

Oh yeah, I was wondering if I have to stop the vehicle, put it into neutral, and THEN lock the center differential or if can I lock the center differential when in drive (obviously not going above 15 mph). Thanks!

go to ww.ih8mud.com. site dedicated to LC's. my 99 doesn't have rear locker so I can't help you with that question. I've engaged the CDL while moving in mine with no ill effects, though I usually stop to do so.

Thanks a lot, I've been looking for a site like that!

As for the center differential, I just don't want to damage it in anyway by accidentally locking the diff when I'm moving but I've talked to a few other people who say you can lock it with having to stop and all that.
