Default Just drove home my 1999 Land Cruiser

Hello All,

Last night I finished my trip home from Chicago. It was around 1650 miles or so.

It was quite a story on the whole process. I was going to buy a used 2000 from a guy near Seattle. It had 140000 and he wanted 14,400. The guy said he did the belt and water pump and said the inside was nice. Then I see one on cars.com from a subaru dealer in Chicago for 11,000 with 75,000 miles. I called that night and went through the car with the sales person. he said the front bumper had a small mark. I also asked him about the interior he said it smelled and looked great.

So I book a ticket 3 days later and off the Chicago. I get to the dealer and I can see several visable dents on the car but it is what it is. I open the door and it was a smoker. The guy who owned it was an old crusty fellow with real yellow teeth. I guess he was waiting to tell me that. So at this point I am locked in.

So I start driving and the steering wheel is shaking so hard my teeth are chattering. I stop on the freeway to inspect the tires. They were the original tires. 75,000 miles and 11 years. They are split up and down all the way around. So I stop at the Firestone in Moline and got a new setof Bridgestone Duelers with an alignment for 800 and I got a 100 visa debit card so really 700. The car drove great other then the heat shild rattle and the rotors are warped beyond bad.

The good news it does not have a tow package and it appears other then the smell on the inside the car is almost perfect. There are a few rust areas on the exterior mainly on the bottom of the passanger door and one or 2 bb size spots and the underside has some medium rusting and the gas tank is the worse part of the rust. I am just going to repair the few spots myself and prime and paint them with touchup paint. We do not use any salt up here.

Overall the truck runs perfect. I have owned 3 - 4 runners and an 08 sequoia and this one is the best.

Anyone else from the rust belt have issues with small rust spots?

Hello,

Enjoy your drive buddy, after all it is a Land Crusier, no matter. how much dent spot it has, but the performance wise it will be a good car. enjoy your new possession.
