Only the FZJ-80 came with the 4.5L carb I-6. The UZJ/FJZ-100/105 series only had Diesel, F/I 4.5L I-6, and the Torque happy 4.7L V8. The 03+ LandCruisers by the way feel very quick on their feet. Its the 02s and down that suffer the lag from 1st to 2nd gear change. Talk about lag too! The 06 LCs feels alot quicker with the added power.

Never ran anything else than 87 in mine. Manual recommends 91 but I drove so relaxed so engine rarely see any condition where it'd be prone to detonation.
Been able to actually get over 20 mpg on the highway, but average just below 15 mpg over all (w/ a lot of city driving).

As for the 06 being quicker, I tried one the other ay (flyer from the dealer, had to go over and test it out since they were pestering us).
To be honest. not that much difference and certainly nothing to warrant the $30-$40K they ask for in between. The truck is fast enough and so quiet that it is far too easy to drive over the posted limit. No plans in trading for a long time (not until we see an LC diesel on these shores).

Default Re: Land Cruiser Gas/Fuel - improve?

Has anyone made any modes to the LC to try and improve gas mileage? (I have a 99). Things like new air intake system, new exhaust system, etc? I love the truck but would certainly like to improve the mileage. Are their other forums here that folks could recommend that talk specifically about things that can be done to improve mileage?

Also, does anyone know if the 99 has chip that you can modify or replace for better mileage or power? Thanks, Tom

The Unichip may help power a bit. Not much improvement for milage. I installed the Unichip in my "04 DC 4x4 Tundra and it smoothed out the shifts, though my 99LC already shifted that well, and gave a little power. I doubt it was the 10% they advertise. I don't think it helped my mileage, though. For the expense($800.00 +) I wouldn't put it on the LC. The expense isn't justified. No amount of money is going to make the LC quick enough to be justified. Just enjoy the remarkable build quality.

Thumbs up Re: Land Cruiser Gas/Fuel

I was told by the Master Mechanic to start using 89 octane in my 00’ LC after he did a 60K service. He had found signs of unburned fuel deposits and suggested the fuel change. I did so, but I would fill-up with 91 every 10th refuel, until I was sure that I wasn’t losing mileage or performance. By 75K I was using only Chevron 89 octane and my mileage was averaging 15-16 city & highway miles ( I have a very heavy foot). As time went on, and at the 90k service I ask the mechanic to check the system again. He found it to be much cleaner and his diagnostic testing showed that the LC was running better than at 60K.
