Toyota didn't upgrade the LandCruiser or Lexus LX470 to the new VVTI modified V8. However, the Tundra and 4Runner/GX got the treatment. I would guess this means either of two things. One is that they drop the LC alltogether from their lineup the other is that it wasn't worth the bother of upgrading cause they're comming out with a new version soon. I would suspect the latter as someone posted some spy pics here a while back. Hope its still Japanese built and they don't water it down. Keep the lever transfercase and locking diffs.
The May issue of Automobile (www.automobilemag.com) has a two page article on the new FJ Cruiser. It's all about the new-take-you-back-to-the-basics-of-a-cruiser.
Relevant to this thread because in the article it says "It will be called the FJ Cruiser so that Toyota still can offer the slow-selling flagship Land Cruiser, which has strayed far from the Jeep-like FJ40 Land Cruiser in its hugeness and plushness."
Leads me to believe they aren't dropping the Land Cruiser- for now. The slow-selling comment would give me cause for future concern if I were Land Cruiser fan.
The 2006 Land Cruiser from my sources are that they are adding the Air-Ride suspension to the Land Cruiser and making the rear spoiler standard. There is no redesign for this vehicle yet. No idea about VVT-i for the vehicle......

Nice. Thanks for the info. Let us know if you learn anything else.

Land Cruiser enters the 2006 model year with several changes that add style, refinement and safety to the legendary off-road king. For the 2006 model year, the Land Cruiser receives an all new front fascia including an upscale grille and refined headlamp housings. Also, new rear tail lamps and a high gloss wheel finish raise Land Cruiser’s image to a higher level. To better handle normal road conditions and off-road trekking, Land Cruiser’s engine performance is greatly enhanced. With the addition of Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i), the 4.7L V8 now delivers 275 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque, for an increase of 40 HP and 12 lb-ft from 2005. Following our strategy to provide the safest vehicles on the road, Tire Pressure Monitor System has been incorporated as standard equipment.
Additionally, optional 4-wheel Automatic Height Control is now available to further advance Land Cruiser’s renowned off-road abilities. With all of these great enhancements, Land Cruiser’s base MSRP will increase a modest $490 (+0.9%) to $55,815.

I pulled this from another site. It focuses more on the LX470 but the last one is a LC. I'm not sure what would change between this Japanese version and the American version.

I usually go to Toyota.jp and look at what is coming our way. This might be the last visual update our beloved LX470 will get. Enjoy!
