Several years ago, I went on a quest for a Land Cruiser. I was primarily looking for either a 60 or 80 series. Alas, 60s were hard to find at a reasonable price, and I never found an 80 I was happy with.
At the time, I had a link to a great site that gave many of the "gotchas" to look for in each year. Like, what years to look for engine rear seal leaks, what to look for on the knuckles, etc. I can't find that link now. I have this one,
