Cool TRD for Toyota...L-Tuned for Lexus...

I was on TRD's official site and I saw an L-Tuned for of it for Lexus. It seems like they specialize on the GS series.
By the way my dad owns a 02 black GS 430!!

So I was checking out what products they make for.
Grill, wheels, side skirts and so on...

I love the wheels they have. Theres 17inch and an 18. 18inchers would look AWESOME on it!! It has 17in chromes right now. Maybe the grill would look nice.

So has anybody heard of it or seen a GS with these products on it?
Check out the site.
I will hopefully gets some pics of my dads lovely GS!

A coworker and I installed one of the first (if not the first in the eastern area) GS-series packages. This was almost 3 years ago.

I could've sworn they had different wheels back then, they were OZ brand still.

The grill install was easy, just unbolt the original and install the TRD version. It wasn't perfectly shaped like the OEM,but once bolted on the grill fit fine.

I don't really like the exhaust, for that kind of money (over $650 MSRP) I was expecting something better in quality (messy welds, not fully stainless construction). It just replaces the rear mufflers by the way. If I had a GS400/430 I'd just buy some universal cannister-shaped mufflers and have a local muffler shop do the rear sections...you'll never get a 4-cylinder buzzsaw sound because it's not a 4-cylinder I heard a GS400 with Borlas, sounded sweet.

Pricing for the shocks aren't bad, although you could probably find some Eibach etc. springs for less. L-Tuned's are factory european suspension parts.

The steering ECU did make a difference,it felt tighter than the original.

Thats pretty EdJadeSR5Tundra that you installed these packages. So are you saying that you cant get these packages or they are rare now a dayz?

Could you order indivudual parts from a dealer still?

What does the new suspension springs. Make it stiffer I soppose.

So you can get tighter steering...thats awesome. Its pretty tight as it is but even tighter would be great. So what is the ECU thing?

Thanks man!

FreeRideKipp....yeah, it's been out for a while. a lot of the GS' down here have the L-tuned package and it looks pretty sweet. simple, but still good looking. RMM (Rod Millen Motorsports) and Biltz have some pretty good looking kits for the GS' as well. btw, SteveG at Carson carries L-Tuned parts as well as every other goodie for Toyota/Lexus.

Yes they are discontinuing the L-Tuned version of the IS300. I used to have this car and know a lot about it (see my pics). They are replacing it w/ a sport edition. I believe that the L-Tuned parts will still be available for the car but just not as an L-Tuned version of the car. The dealer may be able to order or put on the parts themselves rather than it be a factory installed version.(Am I correct Steve???)

The L-Tuned cars were WAY over priced for what you get. Piecing it together yourself was way cheaper. The IS300 is a great car but in my opinion the new Audi A4 beats the pants off it. Plus if you are into tuning, you can really tweek and tune an Audi way more than any Lexus.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Lexus Luthor:
Why do you think the A4 is better? I know someone who is looking at the A4, IS 300, and the BMW 3 series.

What do you think of Quatro...cool feature I think.

I haven't checked, all of the L-Tuned stuff I've seen were for the GS series,I don't think anyone has ever ordered IS parts @ the dealership.

I personally think then new A4 looks better. Plus you can fix it up better, meaning there are a ton more options of things to do to the car.

I would only get the quattro. My buddy has a 2001 Quattro and the thing handles like a dream, especially in the rain. Audi sure knew what they were doing when they made that car. Shame others don't follow suit.

First off I just love German cars and always will. I think they handle the best and have the best looks all the way around.

I have nothing bad to say about the Lexus IS300, just it is a boy racer...meaning it is more show than go and you can't do much to help it either.

BMW (BM Trouble-U) is a great looking car, but up keep is just too $$$$. Evrything gets expensive when you have a Bimmer. My dream car is the M3. Just outta my price range.

Just my $0.02 worth...thats all.

www.supraforums.com A guy in there runs a IS-300 with over 430 RWHP......sounds like it is doable. He even posted his Dyno sheet. Thats very respectable. As for the IS-300 its coming out with a V-8 next year rumors say.
I'd match it with any Audi A-4 .....and I love German cars too. The A-4 has never beaten the BMW 3 series in any testing? Strange...

So my reponse is simple with money anything is possible. There are many tuners and lots of parts for the IS-300 also.....
Just gotta look a little harder.

I am not crazy about the IS ....either. In a two door v-8 S/C model might change my mind some. As long as the rear lights go bye-bye....my two sense.

I agree w/ just about everythig you said. The A4 is not the fastest car but as you said, w/ enough money, anything is possible.

I have met the guy w/ the 430hp IS300 and I will tell you that it is not a daily driver...even if he claims it is. It is not reliable. That is the standpoint that I am coming from.

As for the V8 next year...I have a friend who works for Toyota/Lexus in the corporate headquareters here in So Cal and he said it is just that...rumors. They are planning on changing the body style before they dump a larger engine in it. And that might even be a while since the car is so new (to the USA).

As for looking a little harder for aftermarket parts...trust me, I looked and looked and was on every Lexus website/forum and there is a lot out there but none of it makes much of a difference. Most of the parts are not meant for daily driving or have not been engineered for the US engine which is different than the European and Japanese engines. Ours is actually larger V6 here in the states. Not much is compatable.

It is just that the A4 has been around in the States much longer and has some really reputable companies behind it like Oettinger, Neuspeed, Abt, and others. Lexus just has not had that type of marketing here in the US yet. It will come though.

Thanks for the great conversation.

Peace

Are you kidding!? A 2jz engine has alot more mods than than an A4. Don't get me wrong an A4 is a VERY nice car. I prefer the S4!Audi's have alot of electrical problems though. I like the lexus reliability, unfortuntaly the engine is week in it stock form. They should make a TT version! That'd be sweet! You guys ever see the IS430 from TTE?? I tried to find pics for you guys but it looks like the page was taken down. Sorry!
