Question Starter problems 95 SC300

I have 95 SC300 with starter problems. Had to disconnect battery.
When I connect battery cables to terminals, the engine tries to turn over, key or no key. Starter failure right? Can anyone tell me by replacing the starter will resolve this? Thanks.

Several years ago, I replaced the starter in my Jeep Wrangler and had the same problem. Turned out, I had reversed the wires and hooked it up backwards. After I fixed it, it work perfectly.
