Default GX470 "clunk" problem

I want to buy GX470 2003. I like it! Is the "clunk" can really prevent me to enjoy using this car ?

If what you're referring to is the clunk when you come to a stop, then the answer is maybe.

After a while you become habituated to it but you will notice it from time to time and it is discouraging. You'll still enjoy it, but you will always notice it, as will your passengers.

My advice to to get a 2004 or newer, as I've had way too many problems with my 03 and can't wait to get rid of it.

"clunk" when coming to a stop - never been able fix
slight vibration in steering wheel 50-65pmh - fixed with new tires
rear hatch unable to open - fixed but handle housing is now loose
passenger *** warmer broken - replaced seat
driver lumbar seat control broken - it's right where i want it and i'm too lazy to take it back in

I've had more problems that I can't think of atm.

Interesting some people on this board feel Lexus is so much better vs Toyota but I'm glad to see someone else state proven fact's . My friend has a gx470 too and he is complaining about brake vibes and noise as well just goes to show Lexus/Toyota on this first year's quality doesnt measure up. Having a 2000 Tundra as the first run really provided to never Buy a first gen anything because the bugs are not worked out..Thanks for your post look's like the Toyota /lexus Debate is judged as overall pretty close with lexus having a better Enhancement Customer Service vs Toyota.

cheers ERIk

Sure thing. I'm attributing most if not all of those probs to it being a 1st year model. Everything else about it and including what I've gathered from friends has still convinced me to stick with toyota over domestic (previous F150 and 250 owner).

I've been waiting for Toyota to come out with a full-sized Truck and with the 07 it's finally here. It's just those 1st year woes that are holding me back. Went to the auto show yesterday and the Tundra was by far my favorite pickup (06). I even appreciated it not being mammoth sized. So now I'm torn between a proven, reasonably sized 06 and a 1st year full-sized 07. Just have to test drive em both
