I guess I did something right when I raised my daughter in that she has an appreciation for Toyota and Lexus quality. She is currently thinking about buying a 2003 RX300 with 40k miles on it. I offered to ask you fellow TS members that have experience with the RX series what your history has been, if you like or dislike the vehicle and if you would recommend them as reliable models or if they have had a history of repetitive problems. I scanned through the posts last night and I wasn't able to see anything that looked like a pattern relating to any one problem. Is that a fair assumption or did I miss something? Any feedback good or bad would be appreciated.

Check the transmission and the rear man seal. Also, check the O-2 sensors.

It is a certified used car that is on a Lexus dealer's lot. She had it checked out by a mechanic and the day after she bought it, she was supposed to take it in for a 30k check-up. Imagine her dissapointment when the car wouldn't start in the morning! Anyway, they replaced the battery (under warrantee) and also replaced a burned out tail light. She's a happy camper now and doesn't drive very far to work each day so I suspect this vehicle will last her for quite a while.

I'm in Western Canada.
I purchased a RX300 in mint condition in Florida, it had 55,000 Miles on it. It looks new and drives perfectly. The only thing I had to do to it this far (had it for nearly 2 years now) was to replace one set of worn out rear brake pads and also change a O2 sensor. That's it! It is a fantastic vehicle. Just follow the maintenance schedule.
