Hello There,
Can any one please tell me what to check if Check engine light is on, it just appear and not sure How to Reset it?

Take it to a lexus repair shop and let them read the engine code. Part of the smog system failed. Could be something as simple as a sensor.

You can read those yourself, but it's a technical issue that 99% of people can't do since they don't have the tools or manuals.

It's really a problem for the dealer to solve. If the problem was actually a random error, then it will go away after 10 restarts of the vehicle or something like that. But that's only if the problem doesn't recurr.

I have a Lexus 1999 ES300. The "check (engine icon) trac off" light comes on periodically. My mechanic has ordered a new gas cap because he believes that is the problem - the lack of pressure in the gas tank because of an old or defective gas cap. I have been taking my Lexus to a mechanic I like, rather than the dealer because of the expense. I'm getting as good service for a lot less money.

I also currently have the airbag light blinking. He is going to run a check on that. If there is anyone out there with that problem and a solution, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Actually, all you need is a new gasket if the cap is bad, but unfortunately, they don't sell those. At least toyota doesn't. I haven't had to replace the one on my Lexus yet.

The cap might be pretty generic so there might be a lot of other brands that fit. I wonder if any other dealers sell gaskets that would fit. It's a good idea to replace those gaskets every 60,000 mile service or probably at 5 year intervals to get them before they start to wear out.

Gas cap o-rings are available seperately,we replace them during the 60K service interval.

Thanks for the tips, I really appreciated your help. I found the reason why Check Engine light was. I have checked the oil and it was way low and kind of thick. So, I had to change the oil and replaced the oil filter. Started the engine and after couple minutes engine light was gone.

as for the gas cap o-ring yup theyre available, but you can also just take yours off and flip it. the o ring is not much less than a new cap either. lynne your airbag light is most likely a code for the left hand squib circuit, which indicates the airbag harness under your seat has been stretched too far. the fix is to unbolt the seat, reroute and zip tie the harness (bright yellow) so that when the seat is in the fully rearward position there is no strain on the harness, and also zip-tie the male and female ends of the connectors together so they will stop losing contact. kind of ghetto but it works.
