My main engine seal started leaking just as my warrantee expired (5 years, only 49K miles). Had to take down the transmission to get the seal fixed. Anyone with similar problems on the 2000 model??

Second, my engine light comes on showing that the air mass sensor is on the blink when the computer is hooked up. I take care of my car and it only has 50K miles on it. I've heard it should last 100K miles any similar situations also???

The rear main should be under warrenty for 7 years 70,000 miles
I work at a lexus dealer and that is a common problem with the v6
The air flow meter is also a common problem, try to clean it with contact cleaner and if that does not work replace it

Cool Re: 2000 Rx-300

I pulled two DTCs off my Mother's 2000 RX300. P1130, P1150. Both say exact thing, Manufacturer Spec Feul Air Metering. Bank 2 Sensor 1/ and Bank 1 Sensor 1. Its not O2 sensors going bad because the codes would be different. I checked the simple things out first like air filter, etc. and I can't get a straight answer from anyone (Lexus, AutoZone) as to what this problem is. I think its the Mass AirFlow Sensor but if there is another solution I'm overlooking please let me know. Is the air flow meter the same as MAF Sensor?

Yes they are the same. For an RX you need part number 22204-07010.

Hi,

i'm a new member just joint today. thanks for all your very valuable information.

my 01 RX300 VSC and CEL jsu came on couple days ago, after some resaerch ( through Lexus dealer, autozone ) i know it is bank 1 sensor 1 problem, my question is if i replace the sensor after 1 or 2 weeks( internet order ), does it casue the engine misfire, does it hurt the truck( drive 120miles average weekly ). the truck rpm looks OK, since the dealer need $229/each and oxygensensor.com only charge $170-Denso, if it will cause extra problems, then i don't want to save $60. thanks in advance.

My firsy post. Sensor for RX 300, 59.000 miles. Just got it back from Lexus Ramsey NJ last week. Hope this helps:

MIL is On
DTC P1130 A/F SENSOR HEATER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION
BANK 1 SENSOR 1
REPLACE A/F SENSOR AND CLEAR CODE
CUSTOMER HAS BEEN ADVISED THAT VEHICLE HAS EXHAUST LEAK AT #2 SENSOR IN EXHAUST PIPE.

FP NUMBER DESCRIPTION LIST PRICE
89467-48011 SENSOR, AIR FUEL $ 250.30

Ouch, I'm still licking my wounds

It gets worse # 2 sensor, I didn't have them fix. Another 2 hours at $105 an hour.........plus parts and unknowns.

Well, I went under for a check myself. #2 sensor is the oxygen sensor in catalytic converter. bottom stud already broken off. touched with my hands, guard and other stud come off in my hands. Sensor falls out and gasket is 1/4 left, rest has fried.

No parts store around carries this gasket. You could get it with buying a new sensor at $100 plus.

Lexus has it....I'm heading there now. Going to have to rig it because studs are shot and they're part of the $1500 pipe? I have fireplace stove gasket and seal around #2 sensor now with 2 criss-crossed insulation wires twisted to hold this in with no noise. Maybe I should leave this until it lets loose?

Check your RX's to see if your heading in the same direction...

Don

I have a '00 Lexus RX300 AWD with 65K miles, i had the same problem of oil leaking from Rear Main Seal, Lexus Dealer is charging $1400 to fix it, one of my close friend who is a mechanic, drained the engine oil and replaced the oil with a mixture of Real Main sealant, and the oil leak has stopped. But I have another problem now, I have the check engine light on, I replace the o2 sensor in the front of the cat converter, but the light is still on after reseting it. Pls help

My car also leaks and I can see the oil on the exhaust line between the oil pan and transmision pan. The oil is red color. Is that the rear main seal.
Thanks

Actually it is engine oil leak and it leaks from rear main seal. Does anyone has procedure how to replace it. Also what kind of mixture was used to stop the leak. Where can I get it. Thanks

The only way to fix it is to drop the transmission and replace the seal.
