Default Defroster Mod for Double Cab

Ok, for all you "control freaks" out there, I just figured out how to "fix" the defroster on my Double Cab.

Since I bought "Brutus", its driven me nuts that the A/C has to run when the defrosters are on. There's plenty of times when I'd just like the air blowing on the defrosters, not the A/C. And, since I am an admitted control freak myself, I also would like to have separate control over the recirculate/fresh air setting when I'm in defrost mode. So, I've "fixed" it!

The mod is:

1) Remove the "Integration Panel" thingy. Pull off the three control knobs, and you'll see a phillips head screw behind each. Then, tilt back both of the air vents (next to the radio) as far as they will go. You'll see two more. Take 'em out.

2) Now that you have the screws out, pull. There are some clips holding the IP in place, but it pulls out very easily.

3) With the IP out of the way, you will be looking at the HVAC controls, which look like

Slide this panel straight down, and it comes out. Now you're looking at the top of it...something like this:

4) Now, you'll have to do some bending and contorting, but you need to look under the thing. There's a small microswitch at the far right side (passenger side). Just pull off one of the plugs ( like http://www.tsphotopost.com/photopost...cat/500/page/1 )

...and, now, you have complete control over the HVAC.

Basically, this switch is what tells the Body ECU that you've turned on the defrosters, so it can override your AC and Recirc settings. Since the switch is always open now, the computer never knows! (Bwaaaa ha haaa!)

Good luck.

There's those pix I was lookin' for.
Thank you sir!!!
And they've been in your gallery the whole time.
I should've checked your "NEW" gallery since it was re-arranged a while back.
Thanks for re-linking them. Mucho appreciation.
