Default Front Speaker mod JBL with aftermarket Head Unit

One thing I discovered you need to do for the factory front door speakers if you decide to keep the JBLs in the front doors. If you change out your head unit to an aftermarket and wire into the existing harness, the way things are wired with your aftermarket head unit now allows full range signal to go to your midrange speakers in the front doors. These are the two inch speaker next to the woofer. Don't worry about the tweeters, they have capacitor crossovers on them from the factory. Heres the fix for the mids, it's actually pretty easy. You need 2 capacitors 65uf up to 100uf non-directional. These are commonly used in crossovers to limit bass. I used two out of an old crossover out of house speakers that are 68uf. If you want exact crossover numbers go to http://www.bcae1.com/passxovr.htm Do not use directional capacitors. If you have to find them online and order them, then wait for them to come. Take off the door panels, then unhook the speakers, take out the 3 10mm bolts and take the whole speaker enclosure out. There are two wires running to the midrange (about 2"), one red, one yellow. Cut the yellow wire about two inches from the speaker, then solder the capacitor in place. One lead to one end of the cut wire and the other to the other end. Tape the wires and tuck the capacitor into the extra space back there. Put things back together then do the other door. Viola! No more bass to the mids. They will sound much cleaner and last longer under high volume. You might not hear the difference, but it is well worth the time. It only took me about an hour, maybe less.
