05 Taco Chirp when locking w/remote
I finally figured out how to get a “chirp” when locking the doors with the remote. Found the wire that comes from the driver’s door, door-lock motor. It is located behind driver’s side kick panel and is a blue with red stripe wire(thanks to TundraSolutions for posting the wiring schematic). I tested with a VOM and found that when you actuate the remote to lock the doors, this wire supplies 12 Volts to the door-lock motor. I purchased a ‘Piezo Siren’ from Radio Shack for less than $5 and wired it to the door-lock motor 12 Volt wire and a ground. Ran the wires thru the firewall(along side the large bundle near the brake master cylinder) and attached the Piezo Siren in the engine bay, under the lip of the fender, directly under the hood hinge on driver’s side with 3M trim mounting tape. I now get a very audible, one second, two-tone siren sound when I lock the doors! I believe that Radio Shack sells the Piezo Alarm, Piezo Buzzer, and a Piezo Chirpper, but the RS I went to only had the buzzer or the alarm, so I opted for the alarm sound. It’s specs are: 120 db, 6-14 volts and only draws 150 MA. I chose not to wire the chirp for unlocking, as it’s easy to confirm the unlock(either the door opens or it doesn’t!), plus I would have had to wire in a set of diodes to keep the lock/unlock sequences separated. My only concerns, which time will tell, are: if the Peizo Siren is waterproof, and if it isn’t, does any water get to the location where I mounted it?
