Well I dont know how much you are looking to spend on a truck but I just got a buddy of mine a 06 DC 4x4 for 16k out the door. If your interested let me know I can get you hooked up over at Toyota of Stuart. If you want a diesel the only one I would think about getting would be a GM. Though you are looking at high 20's low 30's for a new or recently used with some options in it.

One thing that you have against you is being your truck is a 00 you dont have VVTI and a 4-speed not the 5-speed like mine does. Which does give you a little better out the gate.
Prior to me putting the 24's on my truck the best I got was a 15.1 with 20's. The best I have gotten with 24's is a 15.7. Mileage really wont have much to do with it. Mines an 05 and has 73k on the clock.
I did the reprogram on the computer at a shop in St. Augustine that a co-worker works at. I can tell you that it really isnt worth doing for the little gain that I got and dropped my gas mileage 2mpg. THe only good thing is that I have no governor on the speed or tack. Extreme is the one that has done all the work to my truck, though they are little more expensive the guys no what they are doing and stand behind there work. Go talk to Chewy and see what he can do for you on some exhaust and intake for now.

    Performance wise not to much.
I have done full exhaust, intake, and reprogrammed the computer. I am still debating doing the header swap though it sounds like a good idea I just here it is a major pain on these trucks, not to mention they will void the warranty if not installed by Toyota, which you dont have that problem. The Unichip is just to much money for what you get in my opinion. I am waiting for Edge to release the power programmer later this year.
I dont see why you cant keep up with a Ram or an F-150 now. I am running 24's and can keep up with a Dodge and can out run a new F-150.
