i will be there again. not sure, if i will just go up for the day. or register for "fun field" still undecided.... maybe i'll see you this time.
later....
I'll be on the Show Field. Last year there was lots of empty space on the Show Field, and since they do drive-through judging, you could probably park there and no one would say anything.
Well, I didn't win this year. And I'm pi$$ed. But not for the reasons you might think.
Under the Carlisle rules there are four classes for "foreign" trucks. (They still use the term 'foreign' rather than 'import', but I digress). They are all lumped together as follows:
2WD Mini
2WD Mid-size/Full-size
4WD Mini
4WD Mid-size/Full-size
I entered in the 4WD Mid-size/Full-size class.
The top three winners in each of the 4 classes were Toyota Tacomas. Now what's wrong with this picture?
Specifically, how can a single model of truck be in two different classes? How can a Tacoma be in the Mini class and also the Mid-size/Full-size class? No other brand of truck can qualify for more than one class, so how can a Tacoma?
Now mind you, I'm not whining about losing, nor am I a sore loser even though my Tundra took First Place last year, and this year I have only made it better. And there were some fine Tacos there. My only beef is that the classification of the trucks does not seem equitable. A Taco is either a mini truck or a mid-size/full, but not both.
(And BTW, the winning Tacos were a mix of 1-gen and 2-gens, so no suggesting that the 1-gen is a mini and the 2-gen is a mid-size).
I politely but firmly complained to the Head Judge. Not about losing, but about the way they classified Toyota Trucks. He understood, and seemed to be sympathetic to my concern, but said he really couldn't do anything about it and that was understandable; once the winners are declared, they can't suddenly change the rules.
He explained that in the past, there had not been enough import, uh, I mean 'foreign' trucks entered to warrant specific make and model classes, so they were grouped all together. But he agreed that every year they are seeing more and more Toyotas and perhaps it was time they were divided into a dedicated class. He suggested I write to Carlisle Events (which I plan to do ) and discuss this issue with them so maybe the rules could be changed for next year.
I said yes, but that still didn't explain how a Tacoma can be both a mini and a mid-size/full-size Truck at the same time. Period. He couldn't give me an answer for that.
Stay tuned.
But, on a positive note, I did meet Ivan Stewart and got his autograph.
