Saturday, I went to a meet in my Corolla at Point Lookout State Park in southern Maryland. It was being hosted by the guys on 9thgencorolla.com. Since the wife didn't want to go, I did the next best thing and took my dog Schroeder instead.
I'm sitting there with my dog, sippin' a root beer and munching on some chips and chatting it up with my new friends. So is the guy who is hosting the meet and his S.O. with their dog; a really cool pit-bull pup.
So we are at the pavilion around 11:30, and most of the crew had just arrived when this park ranger shows up and tells us "Sorry, dogs are not allowed in a State Park. You will have to leave." Or at least, the dogs have to leave.
WTF?
Since when are dogs not allowed in an outdoor tax-payer funded park? I mean, they were being good, were not aggressive, they weren't barking their asses off or pooping all over the place. Do we really have a problem here?
Our guy says "I made the reservation online and paid $100 to rent the pavilion for today. Now you're telling me we have to leave? The online page didn't say anything about 'No dogs allowed.'"
Ranger's answer: "Well, you didn't read it good enough." B@stard had no intention of changing his mind and cutting us some slack. Prucking Fick.
Interestingly, you can have alcohol (which we didn't) at a State Park but you can't have a dog.
So, me and my little buddy, and the other couple and their dog had to leave. I drove two hours to get there, and couldn't stay.
It was fun while it lasted.
