Default MN members sound off!

All MN members get ready for winter! Another season of people forgetting how to drive when the roads get a little snow on them, don't you just love MN winters. Remember to drive carefully and defensively. Oh ya, buckle up, it's the law, arrive alive!

Actually it's about the same as it was in Southern California (lived there 35 years been back here since 98) when it'd rain after the summer season. Tough on traffic but good for economy (body shops). People are the same everywhere when it comes to a weather change they've forgotten how to slow down for conditions. Unfortunately the innocent drivers get sucked into the others ineptness .

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

I always have to laugh at the people stuck in the ditch from driving too fast on icy roads. (Non Injury) It is usually the person who thinks 4 wheel drive makes them invincible. (Till they have to make a sudden stop that is) I love it when we get a good 10 inch+ and then driving around before the plow gets there. I can’t wait!!!

Amen PWAXON. I find myself looking for the unplowed parking lots and just driving around in the fresh snow. I love the winter!

Anyone here in the metro has an silver IS tundra with a topper. Saw and passed one on 35E southbound.

Who here in the metro has duals? Video clips don't give true sound.

Default We'll be ready for winter

I pick up my new '06 Tundra SR5, DC, 4x4, Salsa Red, tomorrow at Denny Hecker in IGH. It's Christmas come early! My wife has a '03 Sequoia SR5. It was that vehicle that made me a Toyota convert.

Default Our latest snow

Did everyone make it though our real first snow this week unscaved? I worked the night before and into the following morning, but made it home before it started to snow. When I woke up there was at least 2 to 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground. When I watched the Chnl. 5 news they showed people in the ditches all over the metro area! I only heard of one death because of the road conditions, a 19year old boy lost control of his car and swerved into oncoming traffic. Sadly he was hit head on by an SUV and he died at the scene. Becareful out there.

I've been in the Fargo/ Detroit Lakes area for the holiday and they got around five inches and some drifting. There were a few people in the median on I-29 and I-94 yesterday morning. Surface streets were a different story. Saw one female teen drive right over the median from a left turn lane (turned too soon ) and a 3/4 ton late model chevy 4x4 come around a corner in a four wheel drift, throttle on and hit the opposite curb. Broke the left rear rim flange and deflated the tire . Street intersections very slick until they got sand down. Heading back home to the TC metro today in clear weather.

Default VSC Saved my butt

Friday morning the streets were dry in Rochester. AFter a while it started snowing but I still didn't feel any icy spots. AFter going up a big hill I taped my brakes to turn, but the antilock brakes kicked in immediately and barely slowed down. Light was red for me and a car from my left stopped right in front of me to turn. I started to go in front of her but she was inching forward so I steered behind her, anti-lock & VSC going nuts the whole time. It was like it was extreme slow-mo as it happened. I can't believe it happened, but with all that traction control smarts going on, I was able to steer behind her and missed her by about 6 inches. Any other vehicle and she gets t-boned.

Unfortunately I had my wife (it's her truck) and my mom in the Sequoia with me. I never heard the end of it all day.

As usual it's always the first real snow that catches people off guard. They're still in tune with good traction driving and forget it takes 10X longer to stop and 10X less traction. Me, I love driving in this stuff, it provides a challenge and somewhat a thrill in a way. This gave me a chance to really test my lsd out. The lsd just isn't what I'm looking for. I think I'm gonna go back to the no-slip in the spring and still keep the lsd for spare. Be careful and have fun.

Sounds like 35 was a mess on Friday when that snow storm moved through.

Glad I made it back to Iowa..
