Default Timing Belt Replacement?

Has anyone done it yet? I've got about 95k right now. I'm in mass and just calling around to different dealers (around framingham, ma) it seems like about 800 for the replacement including the water pump. Seems kinda high considering I read people in here getting them done for around 500. I'm kinda hesitant to go anywhere but a Toyota dealer. What have you guys done? Thanks.

I haven't done it, but, shop around for a better price. What is shop rate back there now...over $100. hr?

I called about 6 dealers the other day and they all were about 750-850 including the water pump.

I'm just a little hesitant going to a local repair shop. Engine timing always worries me and I want to make sure its done right.

I know everyone recommends replacing the pump, but most of them mentioned they don't replace it if its not leaking. But my luck, it will leak a month after the belt is replaced!

Just got it replaced. Amazing how quiet my engine sounds (kinda made me worried). Got it replaced at a local service shop, here's what they replaced and everything was Toyota parts:

Red Coolant
Timing Belt
Water Pump
Water Pump Lube
Timing Belt Tensioner
Timing Belt Idler
Thermostat
Gasket
2 O-rings

Got it all done for 740 which I thought was a pretty decent price. Only thing is the mechanic totally f'ed up my aluminum skidplate. Not the main one, the accessory silver one. Looks like he bent the whole thing out of the way to remove the main skidplate. Must not have seen the 4 bolts. Pretty annoyed, actually really annoyed. He's looking for another one to replace it. I'm just such an unlucky person, I swear I have had this truck serviced by 3 different non-Toyota center and each time something was damaged.

Oh well, glad the truck runs smooth though and I don't have to worry about the belt anymore!

I recently had mine replaced and I was at 113K miles. Took everything apart and found the water pump to had been leaking for some time. I replaced everything except the tensioner and idler pulley. While inspecting them, they seem to be in good condition. I also, flushed the system out several times and replaced with Peak long life antifreeze. Also, replaced the spark plugs.

Total in parts was about $300. Labor was a good full days worth. I was able to get the timing belt on and all the markings to match spot on the first time. There's definitely a bunch of parts to take off just to get to the belt.

It was about $390 for all the parts they changed. Trucks runs smooth though! Except I have to take that skid plate off since it looks like sh!t!!

I replace the timing belt on my 2K Tundra at 125K miles. Since all these other parts are removed, I replace them with new:

Water Pump
Tensioner
O-Rings
Idler
Thermostat

I did it in a weekend; lots of parts but if you organize yourself it is not too
bad. Lots of information in this forum that help made the job easy.

I had my buddy do mine. He is a Toyota tech. My truck had 152,000 on the original belt. He said he has done them 1st time at 200,000 and says the belts still look brand new, but does see a lot of water pumps with coolant seepage. I did the w/pump, t/belt and put in a gates drive belt and new drive belt tensioner. I guess the tundra drive belts squeak from his experience with them.

Good to get it done around the 100k mark though. He has seen them break also!!
