Unhappy WAAH! I wrecked my new paint!

Yesterday morning, as I was leaving work, I backed into a post. Did damage to my bumper, caved in the drivers side rear quarter pannel behind the wheel and destroyed the damn paint. I'm so pissed, and the wife is so not impressed. (she was pissed about the paint job too). Looks like I'm gonna be in a rental for some time while it gets fixed.

Damn it, I'm so embarresed, I look like "that guy" driving down the road right now.

Exclamation Oh, That's Awful!

Oh man, I feel for you - especially when it's a new paint job! I also know the feeling of embarassment driving a rig with body damage.

I used to have to drive my wife's '87 Escort to work, 65 miles each way!. As if that weren't bad enough, the front struts were so far gone and the wheels were so out of balance that the front tires "hopped" terribly at freeway speeds. People would pull alongside me and scream "Your wheel is falling off!!!" All I could do was wave politely and slouch a little further down in the seat...

The best part about that little car ("Blue Thunder") was that the headlights had a bunch of paper towels crammed behind 'em to kinda keep 'em aiming the right general direction (courtesy of my father-in-law who also worked on the Space Shuttle Program... ). The front rotors were warped beyond belief so when you hit the brakes at night (with the lights on) the headlights looked like strobes!

I swear that I'm not making this up. Honest.

Now don't you feel better now? Got any pictures? (Just kidding!) Go ahead and consume a couple of ice cold, refreshing "adult beverages" and everything will be O.K....

Steve

Just so you know... "you DAMN sure "ain't" buy yourself" here, my friend!

I hadn't even had my DC for 2 full months... and I backed into a sign post in a parking lot! If there "IS" a silver lining in this cloud... I guess it would have to be... that I wasn't moving fast enough to damage anything... "but"... the bumper! Luckily... I only have the chrome bumper... but still... one of those "jewels" would have set me back $397... had I paid full price for a replacement! I was... VERY lucky.... more likely... the appropriate word is... "blessed"... that the owner... of my selling dealership... was sympathetic to my plight and gave me a break in the price!

So I can... in all honesty... say... "I feel your pain"!

Default $2915

Was the autobody's quote. $2619 was the insurance quote. Then minus the deductable of $500, I have $2119 to work with.

Does anyone know where I can get an OEM rear quarter for less than $462.65?

Default ok, progress

I ordered stuff today.

insurance offered $397.77 for a new bumper with the works. I bought a Sir Michaels roll pan for $193.06 (price with shipping) for a savings of $204.71. With that savings, and an allowance of $100 for the rear tail light (they would only pay for aftermarket for that) I bought a set of 2005 access cab tail lights for $237.00 (with shipping, $113 a side, $11 shipping).

Insurance allowed $462.65 for a rear left quarter pannel, found one for $348.00 @ anythingtoyota.com, oem to boot. Shiping will push the price up, so I'm going to let Nashua Toy know of the price I found and see if they will match it, for a savings of $114.65. Hope it works!

I think I'm going to take this opportunity to remove the bsm on the bed on both sides and leave the bed blank, as they gave me an allowance of $73.31 for the molding on the left pannel. We'll see what happens!

I'm going to use this thread for updates now. The truck goes in to the shop on Dec 1st. The roll pan should come in on the second, the lights thiss week.

The only thing that concerns me is the wiring for the rear tail lights for the bulbs, as the revers and blinker lights are on top, where on the stock, the reverse are on the bottom, and signal on top.

later, Hooters was good to me tonight! 20% off for vets, and i had my DD214 with me to prove it!

Happy Vets day folks, you all deserve it!

Good Luck Ron. Anxious to see how it works out for you. Also seems like the 05 lites could be a new mod for folks. Hopefully no issues with wire lengths.
Keep us posted!

I replaced the bumber on mine too with a similar issue. My quote in California was $2600.

Someone ran into my parked vehicle. And did about the same amount of damage from underneath. I don't think it totaled there car, but there was quite a bit of damage to her rental car.
