This is a discussion thread titled "Aftermarket coilover experiences", within the Northeast forum, part of the News and Events category.
Does anyone from New England have Doahoes, Camburg, Sway Away, or any other coilover/UCA setups?? How do they perform?? Is it worth the $$$? How about corrosion due to road salt?? There are alot of members from California that have them but I'm looking for local opinions. Thanks

I have Fabtech Coilovers...and I havent adjusted them yet but from the looks of them they are pretty rusted and look like it would take ALOT to turn them.
Also the paint is chipping on the coil causing that to rust...kind of dissappointing.

I had the Sway-A-Way's on my old Tacoma. The red rubber material on the coils fell off quite a bit and looked bad. The aluminum threads were completely coroded after a year and a half. The ride was STIFF! Nice for cornering but rough on New Englands pothole-ridden roads. I ended up taking them out and doing a Daystar polyuerethane lift which felt great and gave me the little boost I was looking for. I did sell the old coilovers to someone for about two hundred dollars. I think he was going to get some new parts from the company and fix them up. Good luck in your decision.
Unless you can keep them clean during the winter months and salt, they will only last so long. I have Donahoe coilovers (off now) that are in very bad shape after a couple winters. The coils are rusted and are flaking. the body is quite corroded. The passenger side had actually been leaking a lot of oil before I noticed. At least before it began dripping on the ground. now that they are off, I need to get pictures to send to Donahoe. I had been in contact with them, but I don't know if they will, or can, do much for me. It would be great if they would replace them, but I probably have had them to long. I'll try to post pictures. If I do, don't look at them on a full stomach.
I currently have Daystar 2.5" spacers. Definitely not the same as the coilovers. They actually seem to be stiffer than the coilovers. The front end is a bit higher now. I can't say I like it.

I think I'm going to take the Camburgs off for the winter and get some of the new Bilstein 5100's for the front. I'll clearcoat the front shocks like I did on the rear to keep them nice. I'll put the Camburgs back on in the spring. But, if I like the Bilsteins enough, I'll keep them on permanetly and sell the Camburgs. We'll see.
