This is a discussion thread titled "Canopy in Alaska", within the Northwest forum, part of the News and Events category.
I've been out and about getting quotes for canopies the last few weeks and have noticed that the prices I've been getting are way higher than you guys in the lower 48. I'm talking mainly about Snugtop, Leer, and ARE. It's not just a few bucks either...it's often a difference of hundreds. I know we pay more for things up here in AK, but I didn't think that much more! I would be interested to hear from the AK guys (I know there's at least a couple) to see how much you are throwing down for a canopy.
I have a Leer 180 series that is supposed to show up on Monday- it is the browning edition with the windoor side windows with a slider in them. It also has a Thule roof rack, locking storage compartment, and an extra light in the back. I think basically as expensive as you can make it.
2600 and change. Ouch!! But, if you need it you need it. Seems like the ARE was just as expensive, and did not look at any other brands. I am getting it from that truck place on old seward between International and Tudor. Waiting about 6 weeks so far.
WOW! That is outrageous. You are right though, if you need it... Anyway, I'm probably going to the same place to order a Snugtop SS w/ roofrack which will most likely run near $2400.
I guess they kind of have us by the balls here! I have a $10,000+ upright bass in addition to $3000 worth of amplification that I haul around frequently, and it absolutely has to be covered. A canopy is a must for me, so I guess I should look at it as investment protection.
Look at canopy places in WA, they will put them on a ferry and send them up for you. That is the cheapest way I know of. I have not found a nice tonneau here for under 1300.00. Sucks but that is the price we pay for living up here.....
