This is a discussion thread titled "New BFG Mud Terrains", within the Off-Roading forum, part of the General Forums category.
I was watching Extreme 4X4 on Spike TV yesterday and they mentioned the new BFG Muds for a brief second. Does anyone have any info on the new tire? I went on their website and nothing is mentioned yet? I was just curious if anyone has any info.

if i remember correctly, they are modeled after the krawler tires, and from what i saw, they looked bad a$$. not sure of a website, but in my last issue of Peterson's 4 wheel, a bfg ad is on the back cover and they are shown on there.
I'll wait for the test results. My first impression is it looks like a bit of technology and a lot of cashing in on everyone wanting the offroad look for their lifted H2 so they can impress the hootchies in the mall parking lot.
The 33% stronger claim gives me hope tho . It'd be great to have a tire as strong as a Baja T/A, with tread/void ratio and cleaning like a K/M, and grip on rocks and pavement. Maybe it's lack of a side by side reference but the side lugs don't look as spaced out as the previous K/M.
I wonder how hard the compound is. All I've heard about blue label K/X tires is they don't grip well unless thoroughly siped. If that's the case with these, maybe a date with the siping tool would help, and you'd have an excellent performer in most conditions.
OK, I'm done QBing, somebody else take the ball . Whaddayou guys think, other than how they look?
what I find interesting, is the back and forth of the siping of the main lugs. That will likely be a big help, but some more smaller siping for grip would be better.
The lugs appear to be closer together than the KM, this will help for pavement pounding and for rock but it will lag in the goopy mud. I know Off-Road mag should have them in there pretty soon, I will be interested to see what the testing is as well. i need a set of pavement pounders in 37 so if they work well on the road, then I'll probably get a set and that will give me a reason to use the siping tool.
I already have the Truxus for the off-road trips so I'll be rollin them for the hoochies in the mall parking lots.

Tires impress hootchies? Really?
I wanna see some stats on that.
In fact, I'd love to see the questionaire.
Miss Hootchie, please look at these four tread designs and tell me which of the following best describes how you feel about them.
a - you wouldn't take a second glance
b - the owner might be worth looking at
c - the owner gets a thumbs up for his choice of tire
d - we're talking major snail tracks, doesn't matter what he looks like, he's getting some.

I'm pretty sure they use that questionnaire when designing new tread patterns, like that goofball flame pattern that popped up not long ago, or whoever had the bright idea of making a 33"x12.5" mud tire that fits a 22" rim, and any tire with lugs on the sidewall which isn't ever supposed to leave the pavement.
When I read the last line, I somehow read "trail snacks"...either I'm dyslexic or I have the munchies .
