Off-RoadingDiscussions specifically related to modifying and driving your Toyota truck/SUV off the pavement, including trip reports.
This is a discussion thread titled "Trail rash", within the Off-Roading forum, part of the General Forums category.
Anyone have suggestions on what to use for clearing up, buffing out "trail rash" (scratches caused by brush & branches) on the doors & fenders ? I got some on both sides that run almost the whole way, front to back, and I'd like to clear them up as much as possible, and possibly do something to protect it when we go out again.
When we're not camping, it's the wife's grocery-getter and she'd like it all shiny.
She doesn't share the same feelings about the scratches being a "badge of conquest" that I do.
If the product is easy to use, that would be a big plus.
I would definitely be interesting in learning of a product that minimizes scratches... the Tundra has a huge body and its tough getting it through places without getting it scratched up (Comming from somone who hasnt taken his new truck off roading yet)

I think ya'll have two options: find someone who can cover the truck in plastic sheet like vinyl, or just suck it up... Thankfully I have a color that doesn't show up scratches well, I have them aplenty...

On MY car (Jeep) she doesn't care. But on HER car, let's just say it's better for me if I at least TRY to get the scratches out (at least on the driver's side).

Actually, in our household, our vehicles are referred to as "the Toyota" or "the Jeep".
What we would prefer, is that the Toyota at least stay looking new(ish) until it's paid off (mid 2010). So "badges of honor", "trophys", whatever, I'd like to know if anyone's used a product out there that works particularly well in cleaning up/deminishing trail rash scratches. We already have trophies on both sides with the side steps being munched by rocks (still looking for a good, solid, tube step or step style slider that'll fit/bolt-on to the Sequoia).
Well a rule of thumb is that if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, then your screwed
If not, then you will need to get a PorterCable or UDM from autogeek.net and a good set of compounds/polishes (Optimum, Menzerna, XMT) and buff them out. Its' not hard, just fun
